the screws are never visible. they are usually covered by a small piece of rubber or sticker. u might have a problem with an inverter

Browse All TopicsI have a 19 inch Dell E173FPf that after much research, I am sure has a dead backlight. I want to get in and inspect it to see what can be done. The case has nor screws, or visible way of opening it. I searched google to no avail. Anyone have any ideas? It almost looks like it has to be pried at the seem that goes around the monitor.

Remove the stanc and any screws that are visible under neath, then using a slim plastic device( I like to use a stiff Guitar pick) slide the pick into the seam at an angle making sure you don't go too far in. Once you have breached the seam take a second pick and insert then slide it along the seam until you come to a tab holding the case together.
This will take some doing as the plastic tabs that hold the front and back together need to be pried apart. You will have to figure out which way it is to be pried as one side of the tab need to be pulled away from the other to release it.
As an aside, this monitor uses a combination power/inverter board like this.

If you go to the Dell website, you might be able to find a service manual for the monitor.
