I've been using a BENQ, not the model you want, for about 2 years now, and it's still working perfect for me!

Browse All TopicsHello All Experts!
This is Apoorva from India, Mumbai.
Recently, I have planned of replacing my 2yrs old CRT Flat monitor with an LCD one.
Now, while doing a research on the LCD monitors available in the market, I have rounded on 2 companies, i.e., LG & Benq.
The models that I have shortlisted for LG are: LG W1952TE & LG W2252TE.
And for BENQ, it is: Benq E2200HD.
I went through series of description and comparison chart at different websites for the above mentioned LCDs but em still not confident in regards to which LCD I should go for therefore, heres where I need an experts help!
Firstly, here are the links for respective models:
LG W1952TE:
http://www.in.lge.com/Prod
LG W2252TE:
http://www.in.lge.com/Prod
Benq E2200HD:
http://www.benq.co.in/prod
(Please Note: Once you are at LGs website, kindly click on Specifications tab for entire details).
Now, one interesting feature that I found in a Benq LCD over LGs LCD during my comparison is the HDCP feature Full Support which BENQ has to offer & this really tempts me to go with a BENQ LCD.
But what I am worried about is the stability and performance of BENQ LCD vs an LG LCD wherein both the company does provide 3 years warranty, however, which LCD could prove to be a better one in the long run once it crosses those 3years of warranty.
Also, we all are very much aware of the risks of using an LCD monitor over a CRT one and these risks can be > a) Lines appearing on the screen b) More dots appearing on the screen c) Theres a part inside an LCD warranty I am not aware of but I have heard from others that if it goes bad, than the LCD becomes useless and one need to get rid of it completely how true is this? Therefore, which LCD among LG & BENQ has wider chances of getting affected by above mentioned points?
I would need a good support from the experts out here in order to help me re-gain confidence in buying an LCD Monitor since they are costly.
Theres one more question I would like to ask. Firstly, request you to kindly have a look at the screenshots attached with the post.
Now, looking at these screenshots, at least for BENQ, I am quiet sure that it has a glossy finish but em not sure for LG LCD. Therefore, could you kindly confirm if both LG & BENQ LCD have glossy (Shiny) finish or does some part of it also have a Matt finishing.
Bcoz, I am always interested in buying a product that looks attractive, i.e., has shinning (Glossy) finishing.
I will greatly appreciate a quick reply on this!

Apoorva.

Thankyou all for your prompt response!!!
However, I would request Justicator & Kristofbolckmans both to kindly follow the link mentioned in my post above for all the 3 LCDs and let me know that after looking at the comparision, which one shall be better.
Basically, I want an LCD which looks shiny and at the sametime also has all the features and performance in it. Also, if you both can manage to check among your friends, Neighborhoods or just anyone who has happend to buy any of the above mentioned product that it will be great!
Since, the best person who can answer the "Reliability of a product" is the one who is using it. I really wouldn't like to regret later by selecting a wrong one.
What my belief says to me is that I should go with a Benq LCD since it has an added HDCP feature which LG doesn't in its lower model and the higher model will cost much more!
I am still waiting for a concrete answer from any of the experts out here.
Regards,
Apoorva.
Based on specs alone, I would go with the BenQ also. BenQ is supposed to be the generics of ViewSonic, I believe, but generics have been getting pretty good in the past few years also.
I don't know of anyone that has any of the monitors linked also. You can always check online review sites, such as CNET for them.
Hey! While going back to the Benq's specification page, I noticed: 5ms / 2ms(GTG)...What's GTG exactly? I wonder why this fact isn't mentioned on LG's specification page for both of their LCDs?
Also, I see Contrast Ratio as: Contrast Ratio 1000:1 (DCR:10000:1 ) on Benq page....what's this DCR exactly?
Therefore, what's that Contrast Ratio mentioned on LG's specification page: http://www.in.lge.com/Prod
I would desperately like to know about this since my buying plan shall be within next 4 days.
Regards,
Apoorva.
GTG is grey to grey. It is a way to measure response time.
http://en.wikipedia.o
DCR is dynamic contrast ratio.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wi
I hope this helps. Good luck.
Thanks for your reply Andrew but you have partly answered my query.
I had also asked following question which you did not answer:
I wonder why this fact isn't mentioned on LG's specification page for both of their LCDs?
Therefore, what's that Contrast Ratio mentioned on LG's specification page: http://www.in.lge.com/Prod
Could you kindly answer those questions as well?
You can follow the links provided in my first post to check the specification comparision among LG & Benq LCD to give you a better understanding before you reply...Thanks!

Apoorva.
There are only two cases for manufacturers for not including data. They've either forgotten, or "forgotten" because the spec underperforms in that area. Look at the other products that the same manufacturer makes. If all the products are missing that particular spec, its less to worry about.
Frankly, I don't think you would go wrong with any of the screens. You will most likely be unable to tell the difference unless you buy both screens and set them side by side.
Well, not as of now. I still wonder that which one I shall go for and e'm losing confidence in regards to my buying decision. I feel that as per the specs, Benq should be an extremely good choice! But than LG LCD screens are equally good! What my expectations from an LCD is its stable and performance. Performance is already there with Benq as per the specs. But what about its stability? What if 3 yrs down the line (though Justicator suggested to sell of the LCD when it is approacing its end of warranty), the Benq LCD produces dots on the screen or line, etc... That's my concern.
Secondly, while going with LG, I wonder why they are trying to hide facts such as Response time which is mentioned as 2ms whereas Benq has clearly suggested as 2mb/5ms (GTG).
Also, I do not see DCR mentioned on LG LCD specification page. But one thing I noticed while going back to LG's product page:
http://www.in.lge.com/Prod
is that if one clicks on LCD models starting from L206WU - L206WU, they have revealed Contrast Ration as 5000:1 DFC,etc... if you could kindly visit the above link and check it out for yourself.
What is DFC excatly & why did they reveal this with all the products starting after W2252TE?
Does LG calling Contrast Ration as DFC one and same as Benq calling Contrast Ratio as DCR on it's products specification page? If not, than what's the difference between DCR & DFC and how is it going to matter to me?
Kindly let me know the answer to these questions...Thank you everbody for your Continuous inputs co-operation. I will definitely try to post my experience with an LCD monitor once I decided to buy one among these based on the answer provided on this forum by all you experts!
Regards,
Apoorva.
DFC (Digital Fine Contrast) is a technology that LG uses with some of their monitors. You can find a bit of information about this on this page:
http://www.trustedrev
As
DFC and DCR are just different technologies that will make the contrast look better. I can not find any comparison between DFC and DCR. If you can I would recommend that you look at this monitors before you buy, but from the specifications and my friends experiences I would go with the BenQ.
I hope this helps. Good luck.
Could anybody also suggest the best Nvidia Graphics card that can go along with the Benq 2200HD LCD?
Please note: Currently, I am using Asrock Conroe 945G-DVI Motherboard & Nvidia GeForce 7300LE Graphics card. Would this graphics card support Benq 2200HD LCD? I mean can all the features of this Benq LCD be utilized by Nvidia 7300LE Graphics Card?
Regards,
Apoorva.
Your GeForce 7300 will easily be able to pump out the native resolution of the monitor. If you are just doing normal desktop stuff like using productivity software, browsing online, some casual gaming, and watching movies your current card should be fine. If you are doing some serious gaming you may want to upgrade to something a bit more powerful. I would recommend the four following cards depending on your budget and how much graphics performance you want. The list goes from lowest price/good performance to highest price/highest performance. GeForce 8800GT, GeForce 9800 or Radeon 4850, GeForce GTX 280.
If may be best to get the monitor first to see if you happy with your graphics performance and then upgrade if you want more.
Good luck.
Hi Andrew / Kristofbolckmans / Justicator,
I am so happy with the responses that I received from you guys at such a faster rate and I believe that experts-exchange is among one such forums that provide answers promptly!!! You guys are great! Keep it up! Thanks for supporting me with an answer to all of my questions. However, since this is my first experience of buying an LCD, I am more careful and as always - "Selective" while buying this LCD monitor. Tomorrow, I'll be going to the shop to have a preview of this Benq LCD monitor which unfortunately, on Saturday, I couldn't when I was at the same shop to preview this monitor. The shop owner said that he had recently sold 2Benq 2200HD LCD to an assistant director who requires seeing every scene on this LCD screen after shooting the film. So, visiting the shop was not a complete waste of time as I got a chance to talk to this assistant director and he said that b'coz his work is quiet high end related to film shootings, this Benq LCD couldn't live upto his expectations however, he is still happy with the LCD considering its response time, than 20 times in a day, he has to unplug and re-plug the cables to this LCD & the response is still good! So, I feel that after understanding your all expert suggestions over here and listening to that assistant directors comments, I feel more confident in buying this Benq LCD. Will keep you guys posted about this LCD monitor and will surely post my experience and whatever issues if I might have to face with this Benq LCD if I decide to buy it. One more reason to wait is bcoz of Christmas festival arriving on 25th Dec and who knows, I might get a better deal on this Benq LCD or any gift accompanying it...maybe&..!... :-)

Hey, by the way, could you let me know that which model of Viewsonic can match the level of Benq 2200HD by visiting the below link for Viewsonic India:

Hey! Now I have got more confused! Now I have another question & that is "What's the difference between an LCD TV & an LCD Monitor?"
For e.g., if you could kindly visit the below link which describes about an LG LCD TV:
http://www.in.lge.com/Prod
and for Benq LCD Monitor, I have already posted the link above...what's the basic technology difference between them? And which one shall be more better in terms of clarity and performance? Am I taking a wrong decision by selecting LCD Monitor over an LCD TV?
What's the one thing I could be missing among both when compared to each other?
Regards,
Apoorva.
A TV has a TV tuner built in, a monitor just has other inputs such as DVI, VGA, HDMI, etc. LCD TVs tend to have a lower resolution compared to LCD monitors because the LCD TV is designed for tv signal.
ex. a 24" 720p tv will have a resolution of 1280 by 720, but you can also get a 24" monitor with a resolution of 1920 by 1200.
Hi Andrew! Thanks for your prompt response! However, you didn't mentioned if buying an LCD TV is more worth or buying an LCD Monitor?
Also, you didn't answer following questions:
Q. And which one shall be more better in terms of clarity and performance?
Q. Am I taking a wrong decision by selecting LCD Monitor over an LCD TV?
Q.What the technology difference between the both when compared?
Now few more questions:
Could you kindly visit the below link for Viewsonic LCD Monitors:
http://ap.viewsonic.com/in
Now, could you as well as anybody over here suggest me if Viewsonic LCD Monitors are much better or Benq in terms of clarity / performance / stability?
Could you give me one reason why I should buy a Benq LCD Monitor or one reason why I should buy a Viewsonic LCD Monitor and not a Benq LCD Monitor?
People in India prefer to buy Viewsonic or Samsung LCD Monitor more over any other LCD monitor but I am not sure which could be much better performing without issues in the long run period...I mean after 3 years....?
Also, people in India are not much aware about Benq products since its marketing is queit weaker compared to its competitors such as Viewsonic or Samsung or LG. But I never go my marketing strategies instead, I go by performance that a product has to offer and more importantly, its stability.
Regards,
Apoorva.
If you are looking for a monitor for your computer, you should buy a LCD Monitor. If you want to buy a new television with the capability to use it as monitor for your computer as well, then you should buy the LCD TV. However, as posted by Andrew aj1 already, the LCD TV will most likely have the least specifications of both. (that should your question about clarity and performance)
Your next question, about you taking the wrong decision: No. You want to buy a LCD Monitor.
Your question concerning technology difference: LCD Monitor was mainly build as a computer monitor where you sit fairly close too, and the LCD TV are build as a television screen, where you sit at least a few metres away from. So you easily can say that the LCD Monitors are better suited for you, as these have been especially designed to sit close to.
Hello Kristofbolckmans!
Thanks for your response! However, you have left me remaining questions unanswered!

Could you please answer those as well?

Apoorva.
The only model from Viewsonic on that site that I would compare to the BenQ is the VX2835wm. This is a 28" monitor, but I state that it is the only one I would compare it to because it is the only one that supports a resolution near what the BenQ does.
Samsung is a great choice too. All 3 companies (BenQ, Viewsonic, and Samsung) make good monitors. You should be happy with a good monitor from any of those companies.
Hello All again!
Well, I still haven't purchased this Benq LCD Monitor. However, I would like to know that now, are there any chances of something latest expected to come in the coming months in Display section, especially with the development of Windows 7 being already in its way. B'coz, I was thinking that if I have to buy something right now, than I shall probably wait for some more time and buy the best.
Since Window 7 is going to offer touch screen option to its users, I wonder there could be a possibility of major LCD Manufacturers in the world making a touch screen LCD Monitor for Windows 7 or has it already been out? Further to it, even if a touch screen is made for Windows 7 and released in the market for a Windows 7 user to buy it, how comfortable would be a touch screen to use as opposed to our keyboard and mouse?
Many users are already aware of the problems being faced in using a touch screen since at times it acts very sensitively and at times it doesn't. So even if the future technology suggests the use of touch screen, would you people still suggest the use of traditional LCD monitors (being sold in the market today such as Benq e2200HD) over the touch screen?
Secondly, I have being hearing a lot about these technologies such as DVI, HDMI & HDCP.
Now, I did manage to obtain some information over the internet about DVI & HDMI which Benq e2200 does support but the only term I am confused with is >>>> "What is this HDCP????" nor do I see on the specification chart of Benq's product site this term being listed anywhere. All I know is the full definition of it which is High Definition Content Protection.
Someone on the internet mentions that all HDMI connections are HDCP complaint. If thats true, than does it means that this Benq e2200HD already has the option of HDCP?
Its being priced at Indian Rupees 12'100/- which is 232.925 USD dollars as per today's conversion rate at www.xe.com and this is the lowest rate I managed to find out in Mumbai
While the same Benq e2200HD is available for Rs. 11'500 from Chennai which is 221.375 USD Dollars.
I hope if I will be paying a fair price in Mumbai for what Benq e2200HD has to offer back and won't regret on my decision later down the year. I feel that with a:
* Higher Resolution
* HDMI Feature
* 22 inch wide LCD
* Professional looking LCD Monitor
* Lots of positive feedback from you guys at experts-exchange and from other reviewers on the internet
....I feel I won't have to regret on my decision of going for this LCD Monitor.
Kindly provide me with help in details.
Thanks in advance in taking out your valuable time and answering my questions!
Regards,
Apoorva.
Hey, also I would like to ask that though this Benq e2200HD has an HDMI Connection port, but will my Asrock 945G0DVI Motherboard support it? The specification page does mention about HDMR slot but that's not HDMI. Therefore, could you suggest which is the best motherboard to go for with for an excellent performance and with an HDMI option? Also should support the latest DDR3 technology and latest graphics card from NVIDIA.
To talk about graphics card, which one is the best to go for among NVIDIA & ATI RADEON?
Though NVIDIA Graphics Card are more widely being used in India but when it comes to its replacement, I am sorry to say but I experienced the worse!!!! They took about 3 months just to replace my Graphics Card, can you imagine that? I did fight with their laws, Consumer Courts in all possible way I could and they were located in Hong Kong since the final replacement was to be done by Galaxy Tech from Hong Kong but all my efforts went in vain and to make it worse for me, Consumer Court in Hong Kong (that is mean to help a consumer) instead put the entire blame on me. I pray to nobody else face the same problems that I had to for getting my graphics card replaced.

In my experience, no matter what the model, LG has always performed more flawlessly than benQ. So, personally, (and that's what it usually just comes down to), I prefer the LGs. However, it just comes down to personal taste, price, features, warranty, and "supposed" reliability. Go with what your gut tells you, and just make sure you have at least a few months, if not a year or so DOA warranty to get a new one if it blows up on you early game.
