Thanks. Which of their products did you see that met the requirements?

Browse All TopicsHi Experts,
Does anyone have, or has anyone seen or made a portable/collapsible LCD stand? The application is for traveling auditors who will take a 17" flat panel with them for dual monitor use while in the field. The flat panels fit inside travel kits, but not the stands. So I've been searching for some VESA 100 compatible mounts that are (1) folding/collapsible, (2) lightweight, (3) desk top (not wall/grommet/pole mount, etc) and (4) CHEAP (I don't want to pay more for the mount that the monitor!)
Googling any type of LCD stand returns the countless wall/desk/pole articulating arm/stationary stands, but I can't find anything that meets my criteria.

I'm looking for the same thing TWBit. So far I have found this:

Its a bit smaller then what your looking for, but the price is right - it also includes the LCD. Everywhere seems to be out of stock. I haven't found any decent reviews yet either. I will post back in this thread if I do find something or we buy one to test.
I just noticed the price isn't listed in this link, I think i saw it somewhere for around $150.
Thanks for the response. Our paperless audit software vendor and my Global rep both recommended this too. It's a little small but I would take it anyone had them. For now we're using the geargrip lcd harnesses to transport the monitor. Not all of the auditors want to sling it over their shoulder, understandably.
You can search for equipment that camera men use.

Those LCDs start at $3,150!
I've already been down the 'production video' path a while back:
This mount would require a few other accessories rigged up to get what I was looking for, so the overall hassle and cost wouldn't be worth it: http://www.filmtools.com/f
But if someone made a quarter scale version of the following, it just might be what I'm looking for in a stand: http://www.bhphotovideo.co
After exhausting portable/collapable stand research and evaluation, I turned back to monitors and evaluated several products to see what the best portable monitor would be. It looks like the Hyundai X93W fits the bill. The Acer X193Wbd was a very close 2nd.
What set the Hyundai apart is the thinner bezel so that a 19" widescreen measures 17 1/4" wide, allowing it to slip into a wheeled auditor's bag, but most notably the Hyundai has a two-part detachable stand - the base from the neck and the neck from monitor. So without the base & neck, the monitor's height is approximately 12", which allows the audit bag to close properly. Weight is listed at 8.4lbs.
The Acer has a thicker bezel and is just less than 18" wide, so it had to be angled slightly to fit into the bag. The Acer's base also detached, but the neck stayed attached to the monitor and stuck out about 2" from the bottom, so the audit bag couldn't close. Weight is listed at 7.1lbs, which is very light. The Acer has a better contrast ratio and h-viewing angle and less power consumption than the Hyundai, so if we had bigger audit bags maybe this would have been the winner.
Both monitors have DVI and VGA ports. DVI runs at 1440x900 (from the docking station), VGA runs at 1200x800 (from the laptop's port when traveling). The Hyundai has speakers, but that isn't a selling point as they aren't really needed and I actually would have preferred to save several ounces without them.
Lastly, for those auditors who don't want to disassemble and wheel it, it will fit into the CaseAce GearGrip Medium LCD Harness.
