Question

Viewsonic flat screen monitor in 5 second turn off mode - how to reset?

Asked by: nickg5

I'v got an older Compaq computer with Windows XP. It is slow to bootup.
The 17 inch flat screen monitor
Viewsonic A70f+ model: VCDTS23103-4R
is in a mode that turns itself off in 5 seconds. So, before bootup, I guess it assumes 5 seconds of no signal and cuts off before I can get booted.
Any way to reset this monitor?

I tried unplugging and it worked the 1st time, did not cutoff, subsequent tries it cuts off in 5 seconds from an on screen message.
No system can boot in 5 seconds.....?....can they

there are 2 lights:
off = no light
on and able to view desktop = green light
after this "off mode in 5 seconds" = yellow light

Somebody suggested: Control panel>>display>>screen saver>>power>>Shutoff, monitor=never
I can not boot far enough to get to the control panel.

Also: on the front panel of the monitor there will be a button to get into a menu of some kind. One of the options should be to reset to factory defaults.

I turn it on, green light, either plugged in by itself or with a computer attatched and this shutoff mode kicks in before I can get to the menu. I was in the menu at one time and saw no default setting.

Check your bios for fast boot. Possible need to upgrade your motherboard or flash your bios. Possibly a newer bios would boot faster. Any 5 sec turn off setting would be in the monitor itself. Would you be able to change it on the menu for the screen? Like if you are changing the brightness or contrast?

as soon as I turn it on and get the green light, I can start pressing buttons and get nothing but the message "turn off mode is 5 seconds", that message disappears and the screen is blank and the green light turns yellow.

Note: the monitor cutoff occurs whether it is plugged into a computer or not. Problem not caused by the pc.

I plugged the monitor in to my system. I left the monitor off. I turned my computer on and waited long enough to make sure it had fully booted up. I turned on the monitor and the desktop was seen. I went into the moniotr settings in the control panel and power settings. Two entries were set on "never" sand one was set on one hour. I changed that one to "never".

I restarted my computer and after Windows shutdown here comes the "off mode in 5 seconds message" followed by the yellow light. My system began to reboot and the computer and monitor worked normal. I was at the deskto pand went into the monitor settings.
They are:
contrast/brightness
horizonatal
vertical
zoom
pin cushion
trapazoid
rotation
degauss
view match color
OSD position
moire reduction
language
memory recall
view meter

In memory recall the choices are yes or no. It is set on no, it seems, since there is a yellow arrow pointing at the word no.

start > restart > same thing, off mode in 5 seconds and the green monitor light goes yellow and the system reboots and viewability is normal and monitor light is green. This monitor is close to new.

do any of the monitor settings mean anything to anyone?
The ones I'm not familar with are degauss, viewmeter, memory recall.

FH      48.6 KHz.

FV      60.3 Hz.   (no K)

tested with another computer and it still has the off mode in 5 seconds, and appears to be a feature that turns the monitor off after use.
