Is any LCD monitor capable of showing 100% Black?

I'm looking for an LCD computer monitor which shows black as black. On a good CRT monitor, black is BLACK, no light whatsoever. On LCDs, an all-black screen still shows a little bit of light peeking through.

Is any LCD monitor capable of this, or is it a limitation of the technology?

You already know CTR and LCD are different technologies, however, you also knew answer for the question. It is not limiation of technology, it is the way it is.

LCDs display black by polarization of crystals to block transmission of light.  This technique is not 100% effective , so some light gets through and black is not really black.  You should also know that your eyes take some time to adjust to darkness and actually have a sliding scale of contrast, so when dark gray is positioned side by side with white, it can appear to the observer as black.  LCD projectors also manage to have very high contrast ratios (about 10000:1 - http://news.thomasnet.com/fullstory/497754/589) by using dynamic irises.  The answer, then, depends on what you are looking at and for how long.  LCD technology requires more work to achieve true black, but it can be pretty good right now, with some monitors in the 1000:1 range.

You should also be aware that some manufacturers are handling colours differently for technical reasons.  For example, to prevent (help prevent) "burn in" they inject random colours into the pixel scheme.  Thus helping preserve the display.

Thanks guys. My reason for asking is that my PC screen is right next to my TV, and since i watch TV with all the lights off, the PC screen must be black or else it's distracting. (I know, I'm too sensitive!) I guess I'll just cover the screen with a piece of cardboard.
