Dual monitor issue

I am running Windows XP. I have recently purchased a second monitor. I can move windows from one side to the other with no problems. However, when I maximize, it can only be on one side or the other. Is there a way to have both monitors represent the "full screen" To clarify, the toolbar at the bottom of the screen only appears on the primary monitor (my left), is there a way to extend the desktop and utilize both monitors so that both monitors, together, make up the full-screen of my desktop. Any ideas?

There's no way to do it natively http://www.mcse.ms/message1420639.html, but software like UltraMon will provide you with the functionality.
