The Solution Rating System

With so many solutions, how can you tell which solutions are most likely to help you and which ones are not? To provide you with a tool to use, we rate our solutions based on various elements that most accurately determine if a solution is a quality solution. To explain what factors affect the solution rating, here are the elements we take into consideration when formulating our solution rating.

  • The Grade of the Solution
  • The Zone Rank of the Expert Providing the Solution
  • The Number of Author and Expert Comments
  • The Number of Experts Contributing
  • The Feedback of the Community

Your Input Matters
Because of the way the system is set up, the most important variable in this equation is you. As a member of Experts Exchange, you are able to cast your vote on the quality of the solutions in regard to how complete, accurate, helpful and easy to understand each solution is. When you provide your feedback, each rating is adjusted accordingly. So, if you see a solution that has a poor rating that you think is a good solution, let us know by rating it. As you do, the rating will be adjusted and will become more accurate for other members of our site.

If you have any suggestions that you would like to make for our rating system, please ask a question in the Suggestions Zone of Community Support.

X1650 Pro AGP Resoulution 1680 X 1050

Tags: 1680, 1050, x, agp, x1650
I just bought a new LG 22" LCD monitor. As you know that LCD monitors only run clear at their native resoulution. In my case it (resoulution) is 1680 X 1050. Now, my motherboard doesn't support PCI-EXPRESS & my AGP card (GeForcere FX 5200) goes upto 1920 X 1200 but doesn't support 1680 X 1050.

I have searched for AGP & found "ATI Radeon X1650 PRO" to be a very good option. However, I just want to know if this card can display my monitor's native resoulution (1680 X 1050). if somebody can help me make sure that it supports this resoulution that would be great.

My PC configuration is:
Asus A7N8XE-Deluxe MB
AMD Athlon 2400+
Asus GeForce FX 5200 AGP
1280 MB RAM
450 watts Power Supply

I did some digging.  Looks like a really nice card...max resolution according to my research is 2560x1600

Here are some links to your specs:

And one company who sells it:

If you need anything else, let me know.

Just out of curiosity, did you try forcing the resolution?  Here's a guide for the FX 5200

Thanks buddy. Great job!
This custom resoulution thing is great. It works fine. And I will not need to upgrade my pc for another 6 months or so.
Also you are right about the maximum resoulution 2560x1600 supported by X1650. However, it is not necessary that it also supports 1680x1050. For this reason I posted the question.
I think like with my current AGP,  X1650 must also support some kind of custom resolution setting. If so, then I may go ahead with X1650 to improve some system performance in next 6 months or so. I am not a gamer at all. But the movie plays in slow motion if it is HD.(High Definition) So, X1650 may be of some help in HD content.
Your custom resolution is accepted unofficially by me for now.
Thanks

Sorry, if my last comments confused somebody. Let' me ask the same question again. Does X1650 support 1680X1050 or doest it support custom resolution setting so that I may get the resolution that I want. I am aware of one program "PowerStrip" which allows custom resolution on any card but IO don't want to waste my money on some software. I would rather buy an expensive card.
Thanks

Hey Jatin,

Sorry for the slow response.  It was a long, long work day today.

Supported resolutions for video card imply that they will perform at all resolutions "up to and including" the max resolution listed.  Now if that were always true, we wouldn't be having this discussion.  I will say, however, that sometimes it takes a little user configuration (as with your FX5200).  Basically, if you can't get your card to provide a resolution that falls within the scope of it's max, then there is almost always a way to force the resolution with software.

So my answer to your question is yes.  This should be no problem with this card.  Worse case scenario, you will have to make a software adjustment to force the resolution through.

If you look at the spec sheet that I linked for you above.....all the way at the bottom...in the light gray text....the bottom line says "Some custom resolutions may require user configuration".   That's how they deal with it when their product doesn't play nice with your monitor. :)

Having said all that, I found this thread about power consumption and ATI versus NVIDIA cards.  I'm a NVIDIA guy myself and have been for a long time.  I just find them to be more stable, and longer lasting cards.  I see that you have a 450W power supply and this thread deals with that issue specifically, along with RAM and other issues, so I thought it might be of interest.

Sorry again for the delay...Have a great day.
