Any idea about how to reflash? The lamp indicator light is not lit, and I've tried to do the reset procedure. The projector has a USB port on it, but I don't see anything about a bios on the Sharp website.

Browse All TopicsI have three Sharp Notevision PG-M20X projectors that have the same problem. When you plug them up, the power LED slowly flashes red. That's all they'll do. I've tried to reset the lamp counter via the steps in the manual to no avail. I sent one of them in to Sharp repair services, and they wanted to replace the lamp, color wheel and motor, and a "PFC UNIT" all for $1022. I've already replaced these with new units, I'm just looking for some ideas on what the problem is. Since I have multiple units with the same problem, it seems like a design defect.

Man, they are something else. I did a little reading on this. The bulb has actually been known to go 4000 hours in some forums if it doesn't have the "bad firmware." They do "admit" they have a firmware problem, but even their authorized service providers can't reset it. You can only get it reset by sending it in. Anyone who does, though, gets the same treatment you did. One guy got them to not force him into a bulb replacement by saying he had already bought one and even got 17 bucks knocked off for the " faulty bios" but still had to pay for a new color wheel and labor. So while it is clear that a bios reflash is, indeed, the answer, getting one looks a bit trickier than I thought. I would start shopping for a class action attorney. The guys who are the principals usually make out ok. Alternatively, maybe you can get lucky and find a real service manual with dump and reflash instructions. Seriously, this looks like a major actionable tort claim.

Well it depends on how cynical you are. Apparently this device is designed to only allow you a set amount of hours before you are forced to change the bulb. 1900 from the look of it. So lets say your bulb had never been mishandled or jarred and is working just fine. The bios is designed to shut it down and refuse to let it be powered on. They say that this because mercury is present in the bulb and or glass shards may damage stuff inside if it pops in action. rt/p194321 - sharp_not evision_pg _m20x_mult imedia/man ual-5488/p age-73 rt/t228079 -blinking_ red_light com/ProdDi splay.asp

"When the LAMP REPLACEMENT indicator and on-screen display icon are illuminated or flash, it is recommended that the lamp be replaced with a new one immediately, even if the lamp appears to be operating normally." So since you already bought replacements if you want to live on the edge you could take out the bulb. Next, reflash the bios of each machine and replace the bulb following the reset procedure as if it is a new bulb. If they don't work then they were really bad. If they do then you could just run out the clock till they pop. As far as the color wheel goes haven't a clue. i would bet that that is just a do a perfect job(buy my boat) type thing as well as the motor. You could also confirm this by the steps above. I would guess that a1000 dollar repair is way more than what they are worth. So why not try to get as much life out of then before they implode. You could buy a refurbished one for 800 or so. http://www.infinity-micro.
This product is rated consistently as great when it works
If you can ressurrect one with a reflash. Just tell your people to open the window if it pops and either air out the room or just pitch the projector out the window. Whihever works or as the mood strikes
