maybe he told you to buy a dvi adaptor and your card got 2 output?
so all you needed was a second câble?
because a splitter will never do dual display, only a clone

Browse All TopicsI have a computer with standard onboard video and i bought a vga splitter cable and want to setup a dual monitor display using extended desktop. Does anyone know how to do this? Like I said it is onboard video. I can get clone display to come up but I want to use extended desktop not clone. Any ideas?
I was told that I would be able to do this without buying a new graphics card and just buying a vga splitter.

A vga splitter will do just simple to have same display on 2 monitors:

YES, you CAN have extended desktop dual monitor setup from one VGA output.
Matrox makes a product that does exactly what you want. I found this post while looking for a solution myself, thinking it may be of use to somebody else. It's called Matrox DualHead2Go, and it's $200 new or $100 on E8ay. I'm in the middle of researching that and it's got good reviews so far, although it does have potential to be a problem, depending on what video card and what monitors yo're running. here's some links with reviews I found very useful:

Good luck!
You can use a special vga splitter, that will allow you to do extended desktop. Search for Matrox DualHead2Go, and look at some reviews to see what I'm talking about:

You will not. A vga splitter only clones the displays, you need to get a new video card in order to do this. Sorry to be the bearer of bad news.
