Macbook Pro will not work with Epson Projector

I have a Macbook Pro running Mac OS X 10.5 which I'm trying to get working with an Epson Projector.  I know the cable from the projector to the mac is ok as i've used it with other laptops.
I've tried 'Fn' and the F7 key, but makes no difference.

Any help would be appreciated

Did you look under System Preferences-->Displays?  From my experience, if I have a projector plugged in and just hit the Detect Displays button, the projector display will kick in properly.

Thanks Brain, easy when you know where to look.

The projector I was initially using was an Epson-S1H, which still won't see the macbook pro, so I tried a different model which was an Epson-S3 and that worked no problem using the 'Detect Displays' option.

Any ideas why one Epson model will work and not the other, I think the S1H is an older model

Hrmm, not off hand.  The general rule I follow, though, is that when hooking up a projector to a machine, I follow this order:

1.  Power up the machine and get logged in.
2.  Hook up the projector
3.  When done with presentation, disconnect projector.
4.  Then shut machine down.

It might be worth trying another cable (though you said you knew yours was good), make sure the connection is real tight on both ends (use the thumb screws).  It might also not hurt to reset the PRAM (http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1379) on the MacBook Pro.

I tried another cable with the S1H model and it worked, but yet the old cable works fine with a different model projector.

anyway, all is working fine now - thanks for you help
