The Solution Rating System

With so many solutions, how can you tell which solutions are most likely to help you and which ones are not? To provide you with a tool to use, we rate our solutions based on various elements that most accurately determine if a solution is a quality solution. To explain what factors affect the solution rating, here are the elements we take into consideration when formulating our solution rating.

  • The Grade of the Solution
  • The Zone Rank of the Expert Providing the Solution
  • The Number of Author and Expert Comments
  • The Number of Experts Contributing
  • The Feedback of the Community

Your Input Matters
Because of the way the system is set up, the most important variable in this equation is you. As a member of Experts Exchange, you are able to cast your vote on the quality of the solutions in regard to how complete, accurate, helpful and easy to understand each solution is. When you provide your feedback, each rating is adjusted accordingly. So, if you see a solution that has a poor rating that you think is a good solution, let us know by rating it. As you do, the rating will be adjusted and will become more accurate for other members of our site.

If you have any suggestions that you would like to make for our rating system, please ask a question in the Suggestions Zone of Community Support.

Thank you!

No video until Windows starts - can't click into BIOS.  Screen is BLACK until Windows-2000 starts.  Sony CRT monitor.

Asked by DFlaschen in Computer Displays / Monitors, Video Cards, Computer Motherboards

Ive been working on my Optiplex.  I know it should be in the dumpster but Ive been working on it and Ive been making good progress.
Now this:
I moved stuff around on the floor.
I stretched the video cable some.
Now heres what Im seeing:
BTW: The monitor is one of those big 20 Sony CRTs, like you (John) have/had.
So, I cold-boot the computer and theres no video cant click into Setup or a Boot Menu.
Then, after much disk churching, I see the pretty, small Windows 2000 window saying Loading your Windows settings or similar.
In other words, NO VIDEO UNTIL WINDOWS STARTS
I unplugged and re-plugged the monitor no help.
The only thing I can think of is my DameWare (Remote Control software) somehow got into a mode where No.  Thats post Windows.
A characteristic of this CRT monitor is the light is yellow until it makes a gulping sound then the light turns green and we get video.
It's waiting for some signal from the PC, which it's now apparently not getting until Windows starts !!!!!
Until 20 minutes ago, it always behaved correctly - video immediately upon boot.  I could F2 into BIOS, etc.
Now, it wont show video at the BIOS level.  It needs to have Windows starting before I get video!
My goodness!
