Did my projector break?

I Have a NEC mt 1050 projector that was left on for an entire weekend.   The indicator lights are flashing and when I compare the pattern of flashing lights to the manual that explains the indicator lights it tells me that there is a temperature error.  I changed the light bulb because I thought that was the problem.  But It does not turn on.  The power indicator is solid orange and the status indicator is blinking red for 4 seconds at a time.  Do you think its broken?  Is there any way to fix the problem?

Hi,

According to the Manual this means it has a temperature error and The projector is in standby mode and cannot be turned on.

I would recommend turning the projector off for a few hours, disconnet it from the mains so it does not remain in Standyby mode and then switch it back on once it has completely cooled down.

I had this issue happen to me before.
I was able to fix it but it was only temp.
There is a thermal sensor by the connections for the bulb.  That is was went bad on mine.  I was able to replace it with one from Radio Shack. and it work for about another month and then it completely broke.  I think its because the sensor was not rated for the temp range that the factory one had.

you can try that. or you can just try shorting the connection but i am not sure that it will work.

if all else fails you can try ordering a mainboard and power sourceboard for it.

I would recommend resetting the projector using bob_the_builder's method.  If that doesn't work, since you replaced the bulb, try resetting the timer by holding down the help key on the remote for 10 secs.

I am sending it back to the company for service.  I assume the thermal sensor has failed.   I tried to reset the projector with the suggestions above and I also tried the resetting instructions in the manual.   It would not work so I will be sending it in for service.  Hopefully the repair isnt to expensive with no service contract.
