The first product (cable only) won't work - read the feedback from the dissatisfied users.  The second product is similar to the one I recommended in http://www.experts-exchange.com/Hardware/Displays_Monitors/CRT/Q_24813489.html and should work.  For completeness, post what TV you have, so we can look up its native resolution.

samsung dynaflat

by: CallandorPosted on 2009-10-17 at 10:20:12ID: 25596572

If it's the Samsung TX-S3079WH DynaFlat HDTV http://shopping.yahoo.com/p:Samsung%20SlimFit%20TX-R3079WH%20Television:1991931962, that supports 1080i.

It also has an HDMI digital connection for direct connection from computers that have it, as well as an s-video connection (you can try this to see if it is good enough, but since the set is capable of higher resolution, why not use it).

model number TXM2790F

also the component female connection has words around it that say "dvd in"
does this mean that "dvd in" can not interact with computer

this tv was asembled in 2002

by: CallandorPosted on 2009-10-17 at 12:49:43ID: 25597189

That set does not have high definition capability.  It can play DVDs using the component connectors, but the resolution will only go to 480 lines.  For computers, you're limited to the component connectors via a converter, or by s-video directly, which is limited to 400 lines.

play dvds.... can computer and component connect

there is no female svideo connection for tv
there is vga and svideo for laptop

what do you recommend for me

by: CallandorPosted on 2009-10-17 at 13:30:55ID: 25597348

It looks like the TXL2791F/TXM3292F had an s-video input, but not yours.

If your intent is to use this TV as a large monitor, it will not do a good job.  You will have to buy a component converter, and in the end you won't get the sharpness required to display text.  Save the money for a large computer monitor that will take VGA and do a good job diplaying text.

tv is 27 inches...   no computer monitor is that big

I like watching movies on a larger screen (video is good, text is not on yellow input)

could I at least connect to component and how many lines would that get me

by: CallandorPosted on 2009-10-17 at 15:33:23ID: 25597860

That would get you 480 lines, DVD resolution.  That should be able to show a 640x480 desktop.

by: rgb192Posted on 2009-10-17 at 21:45:27ID: 25598713

would I be able to see browser text clearly

do you know how many lines my laptop screen has

by: CallandorPosted on 2009-10-19 at 05:58:09ID: 25604707

>would I be able to see browser text clearly

I don't think so, unless you use a large font.

>do you know how many lines my laptop screen has

The lines your laptop shows is typically the vertical resolution in pixels.  If your laptop has 1024x768, then it has 768 lines resolution.  For CRT televisions, the actual number of rows it displays is a little less than the lines of resolution the signal has, due to inaccurate scanning for interlaced displays (see http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Display_resolution).
