Question

Blackberry randomly downloads old messages

Asked by: janderson2k

I have a client who has a BES server (latest edition as per this message) and about 50 users that all work fine except one user with  a world edition.  The device will function normally for weeks at a time and than all of a sudden he will get 400 messages from 2 months ago... Messages he already recieved in outlook/exchange AND on the device.

What I have done;
1. Deleted service books/resent
2. Hard reset
3. Master radio reset/wipe

I have called RIM and they said, "?????????".  I am at the point where I may recommend to the client that they replace the device or get another model.  Please help.

When you say "all of a sudden he will get 400 messages from 2 months ago" are they just emails already on the device being marked unread or they are being resent as new emails?  If they are just being marked unread the device may be continually reactivating itself, this can be caused by corrupt data on the BES or device.  The best plan of attack is to wipe the device and delete the user from the BES, then add the user back as if they are a new user.

Sometimes this happend if the user use also other software for synchronization against outlook. If old mail is modified, it will be resend. So check the last modified date of the emails who are resend to the BlackBerry.

Regards,
Bob

The messages are emails he has already recieved AND read originally but are being recieved again and marked as UNread.

What I have done;
1. Deleted service books/resent
2. Hard reset
3. Master radio reset/wipe
-and i forgot to add-
4. Deleted user off bes.

But did you look to the last modify date in the email?

Bob

We've been getting this recently - it seems that when an email is selected in outlook, that email is then resent to the blackberry, almost as if it was being marked as a new email just by being looked at again. Same goes if a user moves emails around in outlook, they all get resent.

Blackberry Curve, just started happening for one of the Executives here as well. Just this morning got 4 email from Jan 8th/9th. So they show up in today's email, but clearly aren't.

It's so frustrating that this appears to be a common problem, but there's no resolution.

Any one find a resolution to this? if so email me at ryan@awisco.net

by: D_HartupPosted on 2009-09-03 at 00:33:41ID: 25248487

No, no resolution. Other than re-installing Exchange. It was definitely an exchange issue, rather than a blackberry issue.
