The Solution Rating System

With so many solutions, how can you tell which solutions are most likely to help you and which ones are not? To provide you with a tool to use, we rate our solutions based on various elements that most accurately determine if a solution is a quality solution. To explain what factors affect the solution rating, here are the elements we take into consideration when formulating our solution rating.

  • The Grade of the Solution
  • The Zone Rank of the Expert Providing the Solution
  • The Number of Author and Expert Comments
  • The Number of Experts Contributing
  • The Feedback of the Community

Your Input Matters
Because of the way the system is set up, the most important variable in this equation is you. As a member of Experts Exchange, you are able to cast your vote on the quality of the solutions in regard to how complete, accurate, helpful and easy to understand each solution is. When you provide your feedback, each rating is adjusted accordingly. So, if you see a solution that has a poor rating that you think is a good solution, let us know by rating it. As you do, the rating will be adjusted and will become more accurate for other members of our site.

If you have any suggestions that you would like to make for our rating system, please ask a question in the Suggestions Zone of Community Support.

Thank you!

Setup of Blackberry Enterprise Server Express (BESE) on SBS2003R2 with ISA2004

Asked by MarcusN in Blackberry Operating System, Exchange Email Server

Tags: , , ,

This is a great thread, but I have a couple of associated questions.

My CSP is Orange. I have Blackberry Enterprise E-mail enabled on my account.
My ISP is blueyonder.co.uk and I receive E-mail via POP3 to my SBS 2003 R2 Exchange Server.
The SBS also has ISA2004 and I have created the following suggested policies.
a) TCP port 3101 outbound and inbound from internal to external
b) TCP port 3500 outbound and inbound from internal to external
c) SBS Web Listener Publishing Rule  for HTTP on port 9080
d) SBS Web Listener Publishing Rule for SSL on port 9443
In the BES console on the SBS box under "connection service" made the HTTP and SSL listen ports as above.
I have a DynDns domain name of MyCompany.com assigned to a broadband router which sits in front of my ISA firewall/SBS box.

When I assign a user in the BES is the E-mail address MyName@blueyonder.co.uk or MyName@MyCompany.com? (People don't receive E-mail TheirName@MyCompany.com, they all get it delivered under POP3 from TheirName@blueyonder.co.uk to their Exchange mailbox @MyCompany.com.)

When I go through enterprise activation in the server field, do I put the IP address of my broadband router? Or do I put MyCompany.com? Or do I put something else?

Is there a really good for a novice how-to somewhere that I can read?

I have 5 users (directors) that have Blackberry devices and they have asked me to setup the Blackberry Enterprise Server so they can use thier devices with our 2007 Exchange server.

I have downloaded the "Blackberry Enterprise Server Express v.4.1.3.16" and have installed this ona server running Windows 2003 Server.  The server is also a domain controller.

BES has been installed and all the tests have been carried out to make sure everything is connecting and working.  the BESADMIN account seems to have all the correct permissions set and the IEMSTEST seems to confirm this, the results were as follows:

BlackBerry Enterprise Server Utility - IEMSTest.exe (IExchangeManageStore), Version 1.0
Copyright (c) Research In Motion, Ltd. 1999. All rights reserved.
Opening Default Message Store Mailbox - IT Support.
Opening message store for Paul Davies using /o=ASIDOMAIN/ou=ASIFS01/cn=Recipient
s/cn=PaulD /o=ASIDOMAIN/ou=Exchange Administrative Group (FYDIBOHF23SPDLT)/cn=Co
nfiguration/cn=Servers/cn=ASIEX01/cn=Microsoft Private MDB.
Paul Davies's Mailbox opened successfully.
Root Folder opened successfully.
Folder created successfully.
Test folder deleted successfully.
Test completed successfully for Paul Davies.

I have tried adding a user, and the status of the user sits at INITIALIZING.  I tried connecting a device directly to the server via USB and then allocating this device to the user I added.  The device says it is being PROVISIONED but that is as far as it ever gets.

I am very new to Blackberry technology and am completely lost now.......

A couple of things I thought to ask:

1. Does the phone/device need to be setup with the operator (T-Mobile, O2, Orange) to work with the BES
2. How does the Device know where to connect to, the server is connected to some external location on port 3101 at srp.uk.blackberry.net
3.I have installed the MAPI subsytem but get an error now that says it is not available..... Is there a service for this I can stop and start?

All help greatly appreciated.
