I have a Blackberry Pearl that I use as my cell phone & PIM and I synchronize it with my address and calendar info that I keep on MS Outlook 2000 running on a old Toshiba Satellite laptop running Windows XP Home, SP3.
Up until recently I would just plug the Pearl into the USB cable attached to my laptop and it would automatically synchronize all the data b/t the Pearl and MS Outlook. Recently I started having problems where I would plug the USB cable into the phone, but the connection would not be recognized. If I jiggled the cable back & forth into the Pearl multiple times, it would eventually get a good connection and start synchronizing. That was annoying but at least it would eventually work.
But now it's gotten to the point where the connection just doesn't take, no matter how many times I try. I'm fairly certain the problem lies in the Pearl's USB port b/c I've tried different USB cables and the result is always the same. So I'm guessing the Pearl's USB port is simply damaged.
So my main question is this. I'd like to be able to sync my Pearl with my laptop using Bluetooth. But the catch is that my laptop is 6 years old and does not have built-in bluetooth. Can I buy an external Bluetooth device to attach to my laptop that would give it Bluetooth support so that I could then synch my laptop and Pearl? What is this device called?
