Good question. The blackberry messenger application does not organize the list of contacts conventionally, so when you back that database up, it will show a blank space under the number of entried column. However there is nothing to worry about, the blackberry messenger contact list is still backed up, even though it may not be displaying any number of entries.

However, your blackberry messenger conversations will not be backed up, and will be erased. There is no way to prevent this.

Yes sorry for not replying in a while. When you do a backup and restore it definitely does backup the messenger list. I did this several times while upgrading from the 7290 to the 8700 to the 8300 to the 8310, and my messenger list was always transferred over. If what you were trying to do was transfer the contacts from the 8300 to the bold, and your contacts did not transfer over, then there may be another explanation. In the blackberry messenger application, the blackberry's Personal Identification Number (PIN) is used to address your blackberry. Every blackberry has a different PIN. With the older blackberrys, while transferring your contact list, even though the contact list would transfer, and you would have everyone else's PIN stored on your new blackberry, each one of your contacts would still have your OLD PIN, and would need to add you as a contact again before being able to send you messages. Now I don't have as much experience with the bold, but what may have happened is that in order to reduce confusion, they may have added some type of feature which requires you to add each one of your contacts individually. Unfortunately if this is the case there is no way to get around this, and similarly even with the old blackberrys you would have to delete each contact and re-add them (or have the contacts re-add you, for instance, by sending out an email to everyone who was on your messenger list, telling them that you have a new PIN). If the backup file is from your curve, you should still be able to restore your contacts to your curve (but apparently not your bold). Let me know what happens.
