once you wipe the handheld and recreate the account it shouldnt ask you for the server name
Main Topics
Browse All TopicsI have installed BES 4.1 onto my SBS2003 Server and am attempting to get users phones synced with BES, but when they type in their email address and the activation password it just hangs at the activating screen.
I know there is a connection being made because on the BES manager, it shows that there was a connection made, just failed to activate.
Could an issue be that i am inputing the server name wrong, when you input your email and activation password there is another field for server name. This is something else i am not sure about:
This is how i put it, SERVER.MYDOMAIN.COM is this right or did i not set up correctly. I cannot find a walk through for this portion of setting up users.
A little back history, or Domain Controlelr that hosted BES Previously has crashed, this is a fresh install on a new machine. Would this have a factor in users not being able to activate on BES?

That looks like an activation email. Normally you see those when the user tries to do an enterprise activation, but the BES picks it up quickly and processes it. If the email is just sitting in the person's inbox, something is wrong along the line.
It might be a permissions issue. If the BES account can't read the person's mailbox, it can't pick up the activation message.
It could be a number of things, but the process is working as it should up until the point where the BES is supposed to pick up that email.
Either the BES isn't looking at his mailbox, or there is a permission issue.
Let me know what you think..
I will take a look at permissions once again. I know that when i created the account via the attached guide, I added the send as permission to it for all users. I thought this should take care if that, but maybe not. I will look into this further and get back with any other pertinent information that could assist us in coming up with a solution. Thanks for the help so far, I will reply as soon as i can.
The Server 2003 is in the 3rd section.
Thanks again for your help.
back it up to there pc and wipe it clean. that is probably the last resort i would try, its as if the device doesnt have the security policy loaded. have you tried to resend the service book and the it policy then reload the user? take the battery out of the blackberry and put it back in to force it to sync? thats what we always have to do after deleted the account off the BES server.
hey, i just talked to a few of the windows guys here, and they said that the user will need to close there outlook while you try to activate it, that will process the message the right way. it shouldnt get stuck in the inbox is should get deleted automatically. try a hard reset on the BB before resending the activation. and make sure the user has there outlook closed.
let me know if that helps.
Ok fellas, here is the final verdict. Like you had both mentioned prior to verify security permissions, wipe the device, bam all was done correctly. The only thing i did wrong was install under a different account. I assumed that by this question from jdrea - "Also did you install BES with a Domain Admin account or the BES Admin account?" he had asked if i had installed with a domain admin account or the BES account. The answer should have been i installed with the domain account. that was my problem. I was instructed by RIM to export the registry entries for Blackberry Manager and then import them into the current user registry entry on the BES account i had set up. that was all that needed to be done.
Again thanks for the help to both of you. I am sorry that it was something so little/big that caused the issue. Again i cannot thank ya'll enough for taking the time to investigate and research possible fixes.
