zorbabic,
We do not have a way to turn off the encryption policy since it was enacted by corporate. They will not reset the change we need. Is there any other way to fix this?

Browse All TopicsI have a friend who took over 1000 pictures on his blackberry phone. One day he noticed that all the pictures had been converted from .jpg to .jpg.rem files. When he would move the file from his blackberry to his laptop, he could not view the files. He can only view them on the blackbery. After some research, he discovered that his corporate office implemented encryption on all the phones. Now, all the pictures are stuck on his phone. We have tried pulling the chip out, placing it into a new personal phone and then sending them across to the laptop with no success. We tried reading the chips straight into the USB port with a special cable and no success. Is there anyway to covert the images back to a normal .jpg file. Any help is GREATLY appreciated.

The most efficient method of decrypting the files:
1. Turn off future encryptions
o Go to Options -> Media Card
o Set Encrypt Media Files to No
o Note: Despite what people say, you do not have to set Encryption mode to None - this has nothing to do with your encrypted media files
2. Move the encrypted files in order to decrypt them
o Go to Media
o Press the Menu key
o Select Explore
o Navigate to the directory containing your encrypted files
o Create a temporary folder
o Move the encrypted files into the temporary folder
o Note: If you have media files in other directories that need to be decrypted, don't put them in this temporary folder. Instead, create a separate temporary folder in that directory and repeat these steps. This way, you can remember the files' original location
o For impatient people (like me) or people with way too many encrypted files: To quickly decrypt files:
§ Move one file into the temporary folder using any method (this lets the BB remember the temporary folder as the folder you will be moving future files into)
§ Scroll to the next file
§ Press the Menu key
§ Press the M key (this highlights Move)
§ Click the trackball
§ Press the Menu key
§ Press the M key (this highlights Move here)
§ Click the trackball
§ Rinse & repeat
3. Clean up
o Technically, you could use the BB interface to clean up, but if you have way too many files, you'll want to use the Mass Storage Mode - this is more efficient, allows you to navigate the directories quickly, and allows your files to move to their original directories quickly
o Use the USB cord to connect your BB to a computer and enable Mass Storage Mode
o Navigate to the temporary folders
o Move the containing files to their original directories
o Delete the temporary folders
