Question

Blackberry/Outlook sync error message

Asked by: VanceH

Document ID: 22902759

Getting file skiped errors when running Intellisync between my Blackberry and Outlook. There is 1 address contact that is being skipped in Outlook. I have followed the instructions in the document. Modified the iloptcfg.cfg file. Resynced my BB to generate new PTTrace.log and tif.log files. Now I'm instructed to paste the contents of these log files and email them to my support representative.

Who is the hell is that person?

The reason I'm paying for this service is to get answers to my questions. All this document had me do is to collect information, that's no help.

So what am I supposed to do with these files? Is there anyone at your company that can profile me with personalized suppoort?

when you say a single entry getting skipped in Outlook, what exactly you mean by that ? Can you elaborate the scenario and the problem faced.

Attached are 3 files.

The first is the error after I sync my BB to outlook using BB Desktop Manager (version: 5.0.0.11)

The second file is the PTtrace.log file

The third file is the tif.log file

IF you want, you can call me to make this much easier.

Try the below steps :

Problem

Some records are skipped during synchronization and the BlackBerry smartphone user receives the following error message:

There was a total of 1 record(s) skipped during the synchronization as summarized below:

Address Book: Device - 0, Microsoft Outlook - 1
Please check the synchronization log for more details.

Cause

This issue could be caused by one of the following:
The First Name, Last Name, and Company fields are empty in one or more contacts in the Microsoft Outlook address book.
An Address Book entry on the BlackBerry smartphone is corrupt.
Resolution

Complete the appropriate resolution for the cause.

Cause 1

The First Name, Last Name, and Company fields are empty in one or more contacts in the Microsoft Outlook address book.

Resolution 1

Upgrade to BlackBerry Desktop Software 4.2 or later.

Resolution 2

Add text to the empty First Name, Last Name, or Company fields, or delete contacts with empty fields in the Microsoft Outlook address book.

Cause 2

An Address Book entry on the BlackBerry smartphone is corrupt.

Resolution

Clear the Address Book database. For more information, see KB05313.

Workaround

Workaround 1

Perform an advanced search in Microsoft Outlook to find contacts with empty First Name, Last Name, and Company fields.
In Microsoft Outlook, open Contacts.
Click Tools > Find > Advanced Find.
Click the Advanced tab.
Click Field.
Click Frequently-used fields > First Name.
In the Condition drop-down list, select is empty.
Click Add To List.
Repeat steps 4 to 6 for Last Name and Company.
Click Find Now.
Modify any empty fields that appear in the search results.
Synchronize the BlackBerry smartphone using the BlackBerry® Desktop Manager.
If you do not find any contacts containing empty fields, use advanced logging to find the corrupt entry in the address book. To turn on advanced logging, see KB01451.

Workaround 2

Complete the following steps:
Open BlackBerry Desktop Manager.
Click Synchronize.
Select the Configuration tab.
Click View log.
Select Edit, then Find. Alternatively, press Ctrl+F.
Type the word skip, then click Find Next.
Delete the entry that is causing the problem in either Microsoft Outlook or on the BlackBerry smartphone, depending on where the corrupt entry is located.

There was a empty "Company" field that was causing the error. The record was for a doctor, I had his name and file-as entered only. But I have other doctor entries where the company field is blank and the advanced find didn't flag those entries.

So why do you think this one record wanted a entry in the company field?

My problem is fixed and I think you.

Would require more research on that.

If you think your problem is fixed kindly assign the points to me.

Thanks!!
