Question

Bes 4.1 not getting new AD Users

Asked by: AaronIT

We currently have an Exchange 2007 SP1 and BES 4.1.6.15 Server.

At this juncture, our BES hasn't received any updates from AD.  It just started happening so we are unable to add new users at this point.

We have tried the trick with deleting the profiles from the registry and recreated via EDIT mapi with no joy.

Anyone else have other suggestions?

Remove and Reinstall BES with a new user a/c.

by: AaronITPosted on 2009-10-07 at 10:47:49ID: 25517964

Wouldn't that require resetting up all the blackberries?

by: Shekhar2coolPosted on 2009-10-07 at 11:15:23ID: 25518227

If you use the same database it wont. In that case you will have to use the same a/c for installation.

Have you re-apply access rights to the BESadmin account in AD/Exchange?  Weird things happen sometimes...

Hi,

try going into owa with your BESadmin account and see if you can find your new users there. If you can see them than the problem is rather with the database then with the server or mapi profiles itself. You can also try the IEMStest tool that is located in c:/program files/blackberry enterprise server/tools. choose either profile and see if you can find your users there. Do you have segregated GAL perhaps?

best regards

Mighty and Ubanunski

I did both of your suggestions, twice with no joy.

Ubabunski, you mentioned something about the database, how do I go about fixing that portion or trying that?

by: ubabunskiPosted on 2009-10-08 at 06:57:56ID: 25525418

Hi,

could you check if the user you are looking for has Hide from GAL option checked in Exchange? Did you reset the bes server when this started? If you cannot find the user in OWA than the problem is not with your database but with your exchange server. Can you create a new besadmin account and change the besadmin account for the server? There is a kb from blackberry on how to do that.

http://www.blackberry.com/btsc/viewContent.do?externalId=KB04293&sliceId=1

Are other users able to see the new users in GAL?

best regards

by: AaronITPosted on 2009-10-08 at 07:02:22ID: 25525469

Yes I checked the HIDE from GAL option.

I can see the contacts in OWA.

I will try the besadmin account thing and get back to you.

I'm running BES 5.0 (Exchange) now and there's an option to "refresh available user list from company directory" that forces the BES to retrieve complete GAL listing.... Is there such option in 4.1.x for you to try?

That option solved numerous "user missing" issue for me.

Sorry, we are going from BES 4.1.x GroupWise straight to BES 5.0 Exchange so no experience in 4.1.x Exchange BES.

Unfortunately not that I have been able to find.

We are debating about biting the bullet and just upgrading to fix this problem too.... but who knows.

by: ubabunskiPosted on 2009-10-08 at 07:27:02ID: 25525781

The link helps you if you can already see the new users in gal which you checked in owa for the besadmin account and the answer was no. If you cannot see them in owa than there is somethin wrong either with the gal that the besadmin user see or with the user itself.

Best regards

Ok gents

So I created a new user followed the I structions however once I got to the edit mapi portion it couldn't authenticate my new account.

Now I know all is well because I tested that account fromthat machine with Owa and the pass through authentication worked.

Any other suggestions.

SELF RESOLVED

http://blogs.msdn.com/dgoldman/archive/2006/05/06/The-DS-Server-registry-key-and-rebuilding-an-Offline-Address-List.aspx

Using the link above we tested all our GC's in the farm and found there were 2 OLD DC's still in Active Directory Sites and Services that needed to be deleted from each of the remote servers, then we had to update the replication server and manually replicate.

Once that was done, all was well.
