iPAQ 3975 and wireless card

I would like to use my iPAQ in a wireless environment. I see Compaq only recommends for the 3900 series iPAQs the Compaq WL100. If I insert a 3COM or Compaq's laptop wireless PCMCIA card, the iPAQ doesn't recognize them. Short of purchasing a Compaq WL100 card (which I'm sure the driver's are built in on the iPAQ), is there a way to load the drivers for the more common PCMCIA wireless cards?

In my experience with the iPAQ for I worked with Compaq for two years, trouble-shooting them.  The only way you can get more commonly used PCMCIA cards to work on the IPAQ is seeing if the manufacture has Pocket PC 2000/2002 drivers.  That's the only way.  I also have seen when you insert the PCMCIA card into the IPAQ, and the message pop's up unrecongized card, please input the driver name.  Try inputting pcmcia.dll, and see if that works.

Either then that, that's pretty much it.
