The Solution Rating System

With so many solutions, how can you tell which solutions are most likely to help you and which ones are not? To provide you with a tool to use, we rate our solutions based on various elements that most accurately determine if a solution is a quality solution. To explain what factors affect the solution rating, here are the elements we take into consideration when formulating our solution rating.

  • The Grade of the Solution
  • The Zone Rank of the Expert Providing the Solution
  • The Number of Author and Expert Comments
  • The Number of Experts Contributing
  • The Feedback of the Community

Your Input Matters
Because of the way the system is set up, the most important variable in this equation is you. As a member of Experts Exchange, you are able to cast your vote on the quality of the solutions in regard to how complete, accurate, helpful and easy to understand each solution is. When you provide your feedback, each rating is adjusted accordingly. So, if you see a solution that has a poor rating that you think is a good solution, let us know by rating it. As you do, the rating will be adjusted and will become more accurate for other members of our site.

If you have any suggestions that you would like to make for our rating system, please ask a question in the Suggestions Zone of Community Support.

Thank you!

Sony Vaio and wireless networking issue

Asked by ramleaze in Handhelds and PDAs

First I need to say I am not an expert so please forgive the question if its obvious I am doing something stupid. I have a netgear wireless router at home which works fine with my work notebook an IBM T20 with an intel wireless card, in fact its totally sound and has never given me any problems. It also worked fine with an old HP notebook from work

The issue comes when I try and hook up the two Vaio notebooks we have. One has a built in orinoco wireless card and the other has Centrino technology. I get the same problem on both which is as follows. The internal wireless icon tell me it has found the wireless network but I cant connect to the internet. When I blunder around aimlessly I always see that the data sent measure looks healthy and active and the data received is always at zero so I guess this must be the issue. Here is what I have tried with no success

I tried turning off the built in wireless and using an external wirless card. That works for a while then the thing falls off and I have the same issue again

Turned off the firewall and tried with no luck to get it running

re-ran xp set up for home networking with no luck

prayed with no luck

Surfing the net I have found other vaio users with similar problems but no solution. Can anyone help a keen enthusiast with limited technical knowledge ?Start Free Trial
