Question

Dlink DI-714P+ router wireless connection freezes randomly

Asked by: eyalb123

Hello,

I have a fresh and new DLINK DI-714P+ router, that I bough befor 2 weeks.
All my others computers connected through a wireless network cards: DWL-520+
My computer is the only-one that pluged with a wire to the router.

Every some time, very randomly, the Wireless network is falling down.

Im not talking about disconecting and reconecting of the router, this problem is known and this prob. is a bug in the V1.23 FIRMWARE, so I've upgraded my firmware to V1.31 .

I will mention that the problem was before and after I upgraded.

When the network is "disconected", the computer dosent even recognize the disconnection and thinking that he is still connected, but when I'm trying to ping to 192.168.0.1 I get no response.
The computer dosent talk with the router and reverse <--    (:-);
Sometimes I can get some pings but very very HIGH pings like 2000ms .

I tried the FULL RESTORE and it's wont help.

Why do you think I didnt did that ? :-)
My router is fresh new because i replaced him.
I bought the 1st rouuter before 2 months and replaced him befor a week.
I dont have the original box so they wont bringme back my money for the router and the 2 wireless cards.
Ive noticed that im not the only one with this problem, but this I heard only from peoples in my area.. Maybe there is something of the millitary (I have an military Airport nearby), some device that they were running..

How do I change the frequency and some configuration to probably prevent a collision?
I guess that what it is.. this or maybe there is a defect on some packets that have been send to the store and they all defected..

>>Why do you think I didnt did that ?
I'm not a mind reader and there was no mention of that in the original question.

>>How do I change the frequency
You don't, but you can change channels
what kind of signal strength is being reported? how far is the distance between the router and the machine?

>>I'm not a mind reader and there was no mention of that in the original question.
LOL! Me neither.. :-D

Well the signal strength is in 1 computer 70% and in other 93%.
But the Signal Quality is 100%.
The distance is no longer than 8 meters.
In a normal house..

The simple solution here is to exchange it for a new one, if you are within the first 30 days you should be able to go to where you purchased the router, and get a replacement, and they get to keep the packaging form the replacement to have for your previous one.  I would also toss in a few other things, like do you have the router on a surge protection strip, or on a UPS to make sure you are getting clean power?  Sags, surges and over voltage can cause unpredictable behavior in a electronic product.  Also since you have replaced this once before, is this really a case of operator error?  Have you contacted D-Link’s tech support about the issue?

Dlink Tech support in my area aren't really exist.
Ive sent an email to Dlink Official support with no comment on that.
Replacing it wont help.. unfortunatly,  as you said.
Im not using any UPS but I dosent wanna buy a UPS and discover that the problem still there and i spent money for nothing.
My power in my room is quite stable.. I think.. This is not like my brother room when you turning on the computer all the light in his room blinking.

OK that says it all right there.  I bet the problem is power sags.  I would scout around for a small inexpensive UPS, either that or just get used to resetting your router periodically.
