Question

Error 0x85010004 on Pocketpc and Smartphone

Asked by: ohmErnie

I am getting this error:

Your account in Microsoft Exchange Server does not have permission to synchronize with your current settings.  Contact your Exchange Server administrator.

Support Code: 0x85010004

This seems to only be happening for one user on a Mobile 5.0 PocketPC and a Sprint PPC-6700.  They have never had never used this feature before.  They are able to use webmail and oma fine.  I myself am able to use both devices and use activesync on them.  I also know we have other users working fine, but on Mobile 2003.  This seems to be user specific as I am able to use mobile 5.0 fine.

Server: Exchange 2003 Enterprise SP2.

Any ideas? Can someone help with the troubleshooting?

I ran into the same error with a new Sprint PPC 6700 running Windows Mobile 5.0, ActiveSync 4.1 and Exchange 2003 SP2.  It turned out to be an issue with the way that I had OWA configured.  I had configured Outlook Web Access to use Forms Based Authentication under the Exchange Virtual Server Properties under the HTTP Protocol in System Manager.  This then requires that you have a few things changed from the default in IIS.  First, using Forms Based authentication requires SSL - So you have to require SSL on the Exchange Virtual Directory in IIS. In addition, Integrated Windows Authentication is then disabled and Basic Authentication is enabled under Authentication and Access control. Long story short, I reversed the above changes back to the defaults and was able to Sync with my Exchange Server.  I will post an update as soon as I am able to sync sucessfully with the above settings re-enabled. Hope this helps a little

Enabled only ntlm and basic sec. on the exchange-oma folder

Hope this helps.

I don't know if this will help but I was getting a funky message when syncing my ppc-6700 using SSL. If I synced without SSL it worked wonderfully. In order to fix I added a SSL cert on the IIS server and then on the pocket pc using pocket internet explorer I navigated to the Outlook Mobile Access web-site. When connecting to the site I was instructed to install the secure certificate and from then on everything worked.

I found this to be a security setting in IIS/serfer/web sites/default web site/Microsoft-active-sync/

In the properties of active-sync click directory security then IP address and domain name restrictions.  Granted access.

This worked for me.
