USB cable that is
Main Topics
Browse All TopicsWe have a Vista x64 computer that we need to synchronize to a Palm Treo 755p. Palm does not support synchronizing to any 64-bit version of Windows through Palm Desktop because they do not have vista 64-bit compatible USB drivers. The work-around is to use bluetooth to synchronize the device with Palm Desktop. About half of the time we try to synchronize the Treo 755p with bluetooth, an error message appears on the phone:
"Unable to initiate Hotsync operation because the port is in use by another application"
I have tried to disable all bluetooth features in Vista, but it doesn't seem to have made any difference. Does anyone have a solution to this problem?
Thank you

Right, and that's what I'm doing. Using Palm Desktop to sync over bluetooth with the Treo. In hotsync options, I have only bluetooth checked. I've also tried creating a virtual bluetooth COM port and checking the "Serial" option in hotsync options. Both still give this error.
Can you give any step-by-step instructions on how you set up your bluetooth and Palm Desktop?
Thank you
I tried it with 2 different adapters.
A Targus (ACB10US) which did not have any 64-bit divers and installed the Vista default drivers.
Currently I am using a HP bt500 that did have 64-bit drivers available.
Both worked and both where BT v2.0.
Originally I tried an old Kensington BT adapter that was not recognized by Vista-64.

You can still sync through the Palm Desktop HotSync (I use 7.0.2). You just can't sync thru the USP cable. What com port are you using? Did you set the same com port in HotSync as well as the Bluetooth setup? Make sure that the com port is incoming. I have no problems syncing my Palm.
