I am interested in ways network operators can implement sim lock in the phones they are selling. There are two ways I can think of:
1. For closed mobile phones firmware - Network operators should get proprietry tools from the mobile phone manufacturers that can modify parts of the firmware, or flash the sim lock code to the correct part of the phone's FFS, or calculate unlock codes based on the network operator's on IMEI and MCC codes or other proprietry data on the sim card. I am interested in examples of such tools from leading mobile phone manufacturers (their names and what do they do.)
2. I am also interested in the mobile open operating systems: Symbian and Windows Mobile. It seems that Microsoft and Symbian have included in the SDKs for Windows mobile and Symbian APIs for network operators to enable SIM Lock. I would like to get details about these APIs.
