Running a Monitor Wireless

I am looking to set up a monitor in a seperate room from the PC, but I do not wish to run a cord through the wall. How would I go about setting up a monitor so that it was wireless from the computer itself? A power cord is not a problem, I would just like to be able to run it without connecting the monitor to the PC directly. My thoughts are that I would have to set it up with a wireless router similar to how a wireless network would ebe set up, but beyond that general idea I don't know how I would go about it. Cost is a major concern for me, so I am also looking for a way to do this as cheaply as possible. (Hopefully less than $200 {lower even better}) Help is greatly appriciated. Thankx

Info: PC P4 1300, 128 RAM, 32 Video Card, Win ME, Room I wish to put monitor in is approximatly 15-20 feet from PC by straight line (down a flight of stairs) Mouse and Keyboard should not be a problem, the monitor is the only thing I don't know how to do.

I checked out all the sites you listed, the only thing is the all look to be much more complicated and expencive than I'm looking for. Wireless networks are now running at either 11 or 54mbps, both of which seem plenty fast enough to support transmitting data one way from a PC to a monitor. I just can't figure out how to hook up the video cards output/monitors input to the wireless transmisser/reciever respectivly. Is there maybe a simple DB-RJ45 converter that I could use to plug the monitor/vid card into the RJ45 connection of the network cards? Thankx again.
:>)  ...you can't use a wireless card or access point as a transmitter/receiver for the video signal just like that, with only an adapter.
You'll need some specialized equipment, if you'll check again at GrandTec I saw something like that there, it uses 2.4GHz wireless transmission, but it can't be 100% compatible with 802.11b equipments. I think you'll have to live with what you have there. anyway, now I don't have time to stay or search for some others, but I'll try a google search monday and maybe something better comes up then...
see ya
install Windows XP Pro on the desktop
buy a cheap notebook
set up a wireless network between the desktop and the notebook
use Remote Desktop

Now thats... interesting, but not very proctical.
I use that notebook idea I suggested myself actually....I find it very effective.....
ANY notebook will do, even one running Windows 3.1.....you just won't get very good colours on that.  one that'll just barely run Windows 95 will be best.
It won't be able to play videos or games however, but everything else will work just as if you were sitting at the computer.

Contrary to what Yargnit says, I think this is probably the most practical idea, even though it may not sound it.  I don't believe there are any wireless technologies that will transmit a computer monitor signal through the air just yet, there isnt' anything with the bandwidth available for it. Or if there is, I'm sure it's more expensive than the cheap notebook ($100) + wireless ($200, being generous) and Windows XP Pro ($200 approx, depending on who you are)

The closest you can get is hooking the video card to the TV-out and then getting one of those small TV-transmitters you can get at small electronics stores.  You'll be able to get your games and video then, but the picture resolution won't be very good at all.

Well, games are what I wanted to do it for, so that won't work.
....well???

We use this type of setup for a presentations & demo's at our work.... The handheld (with a built-in 802.11b wireless card) acts as the server.  A laptop computer (or desktop) with a wireless 802.11b card.  The software to do this is Up Periscope by Pocket PC Creations (about 28 USD).  You create an ad-hoc network between the desktop & the PDA.  Their software has a 10 day trial on it to see if you like it or not.  Their website is http://www.pocketpccreations.com/periscope/default.htm.  It was rather easy to set up & you can even control a powerpoint presentation that resides on the desktop via the PDA.
I fear that any wireless solution may not be able to withstand the "gaming" experience you are looking for.

I have been using a projector with 802.11b built in for video "in" and it works very well. A number of projectors are available with 802.11b available. Now, not all cards will work so read the specs carefully.

As far as using wireless to transmit video to the remote....  I think you will be disappointed. Even when we run power point presentations with object effects (stuff moving and flying in, etc.) the projector has a hard time keeping up. Games would choke it horribly I am sure. I'll try a game or two on it tomorrow and call it research ;)

My recommendation......  run the cable and be done with it. It will cost much less and require little setup time AND be under (probably) $200.

Sorry, fot the delay on accepting. I never really found what I was looking for, but I have awarded points to Kronostm since he attempted multiple times to point me in the right direction.
Probably not for gaming yet, but the "new" wireless media adapters (at 54Mb) claim to stream low-res MPEG video from your PC.  The SMCWMR-AG "EZ-Stream Universal Multimedia Reciever" at http://www.smc.com/index.cfm?sec=Products&pg=Product-Details&prod=308&site=c   ( http://www.smc.com/drivers_downloads/library/SMCWMR_AG_DS2.pdf ) ..
The Linksys WPG12 802.11b wireless presentation player can display 1024x768 24bit color powerpoint slides ...
