The Solution Rating System

With so many solutions, how can you tell which solutions are most likely to help you and which ones are not? To provide you with a tool to use, we rate our solutions based on various elements that most accurately determine if a solution is a quality solution. To explain what factors affect the solution rating, here are the elements we take into consideration when formulating our solution rating.

  • The Grade of the Solution
  • The Zone Rank of the Expert Providing the Solution
  • The Number of Author and Expert Comments
  • The Number of Experts Contributing
  • The Feedback of the Community

Your Input Matters
Because of the way the system is set up, the most important variable in this equation is you. As a member of Experts Exchange, you are able to cast your vote on the quality of the solutions in regard to how complete, accurate, helpful and easy to understand each solution is. When you provide your feedback, each rating is adjusted accordingly. So, if you see a solution that has a poor rating that you think is a good solution, let us know by rating it. As you do, the rating will be adjusted and will become more accurate for other members of our site.

If you have any suggestions that you would like to make for our rating system, please ask a question in the Suggestions Zone of Community Support.

Thank you!

Intalling USB 2.0 PCMCIA card and internet wireless card
Hello experts,

I'm having problem with installing the USB 2.0 ports and PCMCIA wireless internet card. I followed the instructions of each manufacture by installing the software first and then the card. Everything seems fine until I tried to connect to the internet wirelessly then the computer would look-up. Ive try reboot several times and the same thing happened.
As for the USB 2.0, it would work fine with the flash drive until when I connect the portable hard drive the computer freeze-up.

The way you have worded this problem/s is very hard to determin what is actually the main problem. You have like three questions in one.
Please answer the questions to better help you.
What brand and model is your laptop?<< question1

starting with this>>I'm having problem with installing the USB 2.0 ports and PCMCIA wireless internet card.<<
You dont install USB2 it's plug and play.
next problem
Everything seems fine until I tried to connect to the internet wirelessly !!
To install wireless on the laptop realistically it should already have wireless onboard so need to install
Just go to make a new connection, in control panel Network Setup wizard
>> did you have a previous internet connection?<<<question 2
-------------------------
next
As for the USB 2.0, it would work fine with the flash drive
until when I connect the portable hard drive the computer freeze-up.<< what has that to do with wireless internet?
Maybe you dont have enough ram to run a portable hard drive.
how much ram do you have?<< question 3

ok answer those questions we'll take it from there

Q1. My laptop do not have any 2.0 USB ports just the 1.1 type. I purchased a PCMCIA 2.0 USB last week followed the manufacture installation and set up procedure by installing the software driver first then plug in the Dynex  2 ports card bus adapter after I plug in the card the computer freeze-up until I pulled the card out.
HP Pavillon 5170 OS: Win XP Pro Processor: Intel 2.0 GHz 512 RAM.

Q2. This computer doesn't have a built-in wireless card. I purchased a PCMCIA wireless internet card.
Installed the driver first then the card it too freeze-up until I pulled the card out.

Q3. forget this one.

lol ok thank you ssblue that makes it a clearer, here's a couple of things I'd appreciate you look into first, often times if we can fix the main problem it fixes the others too..
please go to control panel administrative tools> event viewer >applications> errors and find the new errors and id number that'd point out maybe what the problem.
open an error then click on the white icon below the down arrow that copies it and then paste back here.

also i am thinking if you use the USB port for flash drive did you stop the mass storage device before removing the flash drive?
Open task manager
then look up near top VIEW open that click on show hidden devices, now take a look down the USB devices look for anything that has yellow question mark
other devices
duplicates of the same.
If you could snapshot your device manager I could look at it.
We have an Attach file below the comment panel.
Thankyou talk soon
