Asked by NJDfan1711 in PCMCIA Laptop Interface, 802.11 Wireless Access Points
Hi all,
I am looking to use my Orinoco/Proxim 8040 gold pcmcia card as an access point. I have downloaded the 4.2 WHQL drivers from their website but that doesn't seem to let it function as an AP, it is just the regular driver and I can connect to wireless networks with it. I am trying to use PCTel (not Conexant) "SoftAP" software to accomplish this, but during the installation it says it hasn't found a supported wireless card. I read the reason for this is because my pcmcia card is not in 'ap mode'. Does anyone know how to do this? I thought it might be a different driver that I need. If not, does anyone know of an alternative to SoftAP for Windows, one that will work with my pcmcia card? I purchased the Orinoco 8040 card specifically because I was told it was a good card for these types of things.
Thanks.
