Yes, in my opinion, you would want to replace the hard drive. There's a chance you could get it working, but I would never trust it once it starts showing errors.

Browse All TopicsWe have some old Dell Latitude laptops that we still use. I ran the Dell Diagnostics CD to check them out. On one, I got two messages:
"The BIOS status indicates the seek operation (positioning the drives heads to location (Cylinder: 0000 Head: 00 Sector: 09)) failed." Does that indicate the HD needs to be replaced?
Remembering that the diagnostics were being run from the CD:
IDE CDROM 2 Confidence Test: Fail
Result Code: 0F00-1332
Msg: Block 0: Timeout waiting for IRQ.
What is this telling me?
Your assistance would be much appreciated.

If the program on the CD is worth anything at all, it tells you that the HD fails to position head 00 at sector 09 in cylinder 0000. That's bad, because the sector may be bad (even if it's not in use at the moment) and it is a sign of deterioration of the HD. If the computer boots and runs OK, however, leave it, but make sure backups are taken frequently. A zero-fill or similar may revive the HD, but it may not be worth the hassle with a reinstall of the O/S etc.

that could mean many things
just try booting the computer normal, that is the best diagnostic test,
are these the results of one machine? or one from each?
