The Solution Rating System

With so many solutions, how can you tell which solutions are most likely to help you and which ones are not? To provide you with a tool to use, we rate our solutions based on various elements that most accurately determine if a solution is a quality solution. To explain what factors affect the solution rating, here are the elements we take into consideration when formulating our solution rating.

  • The Grade of the Solution
  • The Zone Rank of the Expert Providing the Solution
  • The Number of Author and Expert Comments
  • The Number of Experts Contributing
  • The Feedback of the Community

Your Input Matters
Because of the way the system is set up, the most important variable in this equation is you. As a member of Experts Exchange, you are able to cast your vote on the quality of the solutions in regard to how complete, accurate, helpful and easy to understand each solution is. When you provide your feedback, each rating is adjusted accordingly. So, if you see a solution that has a poor rating that you think is a good solution, let us know by rating it. Hitachi Hard Drive NOT Recognized

I am transforming my Gateway notebook, MP8709, you know--installing 4GB of 5300 RAM, moving to 64-bit OS's (XP-PRO and Vista Biz.), as well as a new hard-drive, Hitachi 200GB 7200 RPM 16MB cache. The memory went in okay and tested fine, but the hard-drive is not going well. After three hours with Gateway--they are the biggest jokes, by the way--nothing; I have been looking all over the web and many are having similar, if not the same, problems. Unfortunately for me, if they solved the problem, they did not bother to update the solution, which is why I love this site.

I digress...at any rate, the original drive is SATA (and Hitachi 5400 RPM), but when I go through the installation of any OS (I have tried 32-bit, 64-bit XP, Vista, and Windows Server, etc.) I receive the same error after going into the driver update screen (after pressing F6 of course): "The file iaStor.sys is corrupted. Press any key to continue."

I am the type of person who doesn't give up easily and has never had to take a PC to a professional, but I am at my whits end. I am a novice in every way, but this is how I learn for the future. This said, PLEASE HELP ME!!!
