The Solution Rating System

With so many solutions, how can you tell which solutions are most likely to help you and which ones are not? To provide you with a tool to use, we rate our solutions based on various elements that most accurately determine if a solution is a quality solution. To explain what factors affect the solution rating, here are the elements we take into consideration when formulating our solution rating.

  • The Grade of the Solution
  • The Zone Rank of the Expert Providing the Solution
  • The Number of Author and Expert Comments
  • The Number of Experts Contributing
  • The Feedback of the Community

Your Input Matters
Because of the way the system is set up, the most important variable in this equation is you. As a member of Experts Exchange, you are able to cast your vote on the quality of the solutions in regard to how complete, accurate, helpful and easy to understand each solution is. When you provide your feedback, each rating is adjusted accordingly. So, if you see a solution that has a poor rating that you think is a good solution, let us know by rating it. As you do, the rating will be adjusted and will become more accurate for other members of our site.

If you have any suggestions that you would like to make for our rating system, please ask a question in the Suggestions Zone of Community Support.

Thank you!

Computer Refuses to Boot/POST, Fried?

Asked by skcandco in PC Laptops, Miscellaneous Hardware, Windows Vista

Tags: ,

Much to my dismay, i came to the office today with a seemingly dead laptop.

I pressed the power button, and very little happens. the power light turns solid, in fact, all of the lights (WiFi, Media Buttons, even the Media Card Light) but the Charging, HDD, and Optical Lights are solid. The hard drive light blinks once at startup.

Nothing shows up on the screen, and no audible beep. If I leave it long enough (about a minute and a half or so) it seems to reboot.

I've tried putting the hard drive in another system, and it partially loads, it blue screens before windows loads, but it's most likely a driver error.

I've also tried booting with only one DIMM of RAM, switching the DIMMs, even without any RAM. I've tried it on battery, on A/C, i've even removed the CMOS battery.

I tried plugging an external monitor in, nothing shows up, it dosn't even wake it from sleep mode. I've even plugged my dock in, and nothing.

I'm really at the end of my rope here, as far as I can tell, it's failing before POST, since i don't get any amount of beeping at all. Specs to Follow.

Windows Vista Ultimate
120gb 5400rpm SATA Drive
CD/DVD + DL Burner (24x/16x iirc)
2gb DDR2 667mhz (2 DIMMs)

If you need any more info, let me know.

I appreciate any possible help you can provide, even if you point me down the right path, points will most likely be in your future ;)Start Free Trial
