Hello, I hope this is the correct place to ask this question. Please let me know this should be posted if not here. I recently purchased a Gateway MT3422, which came with Vista pre-installed and an AMD Athelon 64 X2 Dual-Core TK-53 processor.
I decided I would rather have XP Pro, so I downgraded to the 64 bit edition. I am down to 4 devices needing drivers. I dont care about the modem not working and I dont know the significance of the Other PCI Bridge Device. I was able to get my Wi-Fi working but not my ethernet port, which I need. Furthermore, my Audio Device on High Definition Audio Bus needs a driver too. I have been trying to get these last two drivers for the past 8 hours. Please, please help.

I checked the network and sound card download and they are both intact.
It looks like the motherboard is the same for MX3410 and MT3422. Might be worth checking out Gateways site to see what XP drivers they have available for the motherboard.

chilternPC, Those are 32 bit drivers. I have a 64 bit processor and OS.
bmcvicar, I had tried the sound driver from that models page. I get an error saying the driver cannot be installed on my system. The ethernet drivers dont apply to my system so I dont think I should try installing them. As I mentioned, I was able to get a Wi-Fi driver but not an ethernet driver.

Okay I've been digging around some more and hopefully found a page that will help you with the sound card. It looks like alot of people out there are having alot of trouble getting ahold of 64 bit drivers for Gateway machines. I'll keep looking for the network drivers.

I was reading more about your network interface and it is a PHYceiver- From what I gather you need to download NForce drivers from NVIDIA. They should have the drivers included for the network.

bmcvicar, I read through the instructions on that page. My concern is that everybody on that forum has an intel based gateway whereas I have an amd based machine. Unless I'm wrong about this, which is not impossible, the instructions on that page wont work for my system. Thank you so much for your help.
Yes, it should technically be an nvidia driver to fix my ethernet issue, but the nvidia driver i was supposed to use only fixed my Coprocessor and SM Bus Controller. It didn't even have an option for ethernet.
As luck may have it, I started having problems with the wi-fi connection on that machine. So, I am unable to go to that nvidia page. I figure I'll work on the ethernet and sound issue before wi-fi.

after that it's all vista drivers.
I just got finished installing nForce 9.53. During the installation process it listed 2 bus controllers and an ethernet option. I made sure all 3 were checked. I completed the installation, restarted the machine, then tried plugging a live ethernet cable in. A connection was not auto-detected and there is still no ethernet adapter listed in the device manager.
The Forceware v93.71 installation failed stating no drivers can be found for my system. Is there any chance a previous version of Forceware would work? Although, I'd rather not have to go through each until I find one that works.
I haven't yet tried to tackle the sound driver. I will let you know the outcome of that. I did get my wireless to work and I tried letting the drivers update themselves for the components still needing them. That didnt work.
bmcvicar, I appreciate the help, but I'm not out of the woods yet.
So, with the ability to access the web wirelessly, I was able to do a mobo driver scan using nvidia.com, but that provided me with a 64 bit vista driver. I figured it's worth a shot. Now, although I have a NVIDIA Network Controller listed on the device manager, it has an exclamation mark beside it due to a corrupt or missing driver.
Man, this is sad.
I tracked down a nForce driver that seems to be working for some others.

As for the sound, have you tried installing KB888111 from microsoft? It looks like that needs to be installed before trying to install the sound drivers.
The driver support is terrible for this laptop.

I was just reading some installation notes for Sigmatel drivers saw this:
"IMPORTANT: Audio drivers may fail to install in Windows* XP 64-Bit Edition. Symptoms may include error messages, such as "Error in installation" or "Unknown error". Microsoft's Update for Windows XP x64 Edition (KB901105) fixes this issue. After installing this update, the audio drivers for Windows XP 64-Bit Edition will successfully install."
Finding these drivers is hard enough- finding out that you can get error messages when you are trying to install the correct drivers is insane...
