Do not know how to tag this question cause I can't tell what is broken. It appears to be related to the network. I will ask questions in parts if someone will stick with me to get through this - that way more points can be awareded.
Information on System:
Vista Ultimate Toshiba G45-AV680 Qosmio Laptop. Top of line memory, storage, etc. Best broadband offered by Comcast. Runs through wireless - but also can't access network through my Verizon Wireless National Broadband modem.
http://www.amazon.com/Toshiba-G45-AV680-Processor-SuperMulti-Ultimate/dp/B000RN7OOK So I think the problem is either in the software or in the Network card.
Information on pre-trouble:
The Laptop was on, running Windows Live OneCare with Automatic Updates turned on. Plugged in a printer that had been previously installed. Left overnight. Came back and rebooted computer.
Information on trouble:
Suddenly - I couldn't access anything having to do with the Network.
I can't even access the little NETWORK AND SHARING ICON in the lower right hand side of Windows Vista desktop. I click on this Icon (looks like two little computer monitors with a blue world between them) and the pop up window appears. It says "connect to a network", "diagnosis and repair", etc.
Then it freezes with that window open and I have to re-start the computer.
At startup ... Windows LiveOne Care window appears and says Windows Live OneCare can't start. The Event Log tells me that the wireless connection is functioning. I don't see anything else glaring in the Event Logs. But I can't even uninstall Windows LiveOne Care.
QUESTION - Has anyone ever heard of this kind of problem? Does it sound like a software or a network card issue?
What other information could I provide to get some help.
Windows Live One Care support has told me to stop and disable startup for Wndows Live Once Care, Windows Live One Care Virus and Spyware and Firewall. I think I have all of this stopped - but still can't even get to Network Center. I also can't do a System Restore ... because it freezes if I try to get to that screen.
Sure appreciate the help. I also paid for Toshiba Extended Warranty In-Home Repair for 3 years. I just bought the computer in December of 2007. But don't want to call Toshiba until I know if it's software or hardware issue. I'm willing to pay for Windows Vista help if that's the issue. I suppose I could do a Factory Restore ... but I don't want to spend all that time if the Network Card is the issue. :(
