The Solution Rating System

With so many solutions, how can you tell which solutions are most likely to help you and which ones are not?   • The Number of Author and Expert Comments
  • The Number of Experts Contributing
  • The Feedback of the Community

Your Input Matters
Because of the way the system is set up, the most important variable in this equation is you. Why does my laptop shut down on battery power?

I bought a used Compaq laptop and am having a problem with it shutting down while running on battery power. Power meter in Windows shows plenty of time left. Bought a new battery but same problem. Checked contacts and they look OK. Runs OK when plugged in using adapter. It runs OK on battery in Safe Mode. Happens at random intervals, can be cold or warm.
