Part of the issue could be related to the way you are undocking. There was a known issue with the c/dock corrupting video when coming out of suspend after being warm undocked. I would suggest against your undocking procedures and perform the undock by waking the machine up, and using the undock button and only undocking once the system reports it is safe to do so.
Something I just read that could have barring.

First of all, do you have all of the latest Windows XP updates installed... including Service Pack 3? If not do that first and foremost.
Secondly, update the video card driver via Nvidia's website if you can, if you can't find that there then get it from Dell. Your system probably has the NVIDIA® Quadro FX 1600M, but make sure it does.
That should take care of the issue... but if not you may have to turn off sleep mode until you figure it out. Right click on Desktop -> Properties -> Screen Saver -> Power.
