I'm somewhat confused. You say the wire works with the M2. Then you say something about taking the A10 home. Has the wire always been at home? Or what is the difference between "home" and "not at home"? Do all PC's work when not at home, and when at home only the M2 works? Or is there some other relevance?
How is your LAN at home setup? Is there a router with multiple ports? Or are you using just a DSL or Cable modem with one connection for PC's? If it's just a modem, did you turn it off, then back on after connecting the new PC?

Make sure a firewall is not blocking DHCP requests.
What you can do to see if something is blocking DHCP is to go on the laptop that works.
Go to start->run type in cmd
In the black box type in ipconfig /all
You will want to copy down IP, Subnet, gateway, and DNS server.
Then switch the cable and go back to the laptop that does not work. Go to the network card TCP properties and type in all this info as a static IP. Make sure the computer that works is disconnected from the network.
