Question

Cannot Install Windows XP on HP 530 Laptop

Asked by: raasdnil

After reading the forums, it says to set SATA Native mode to Disable.  I did this, saved and rebooted, but I get a STOP error when trying to install Windows XP.

The error is:

STOP 0x00000073 (0xC00000005, 0xF75DD0BF, 0xF7A29208, 0xF7A28F08)

pci.sys - Address F75DD0BF base at F75D6000, DateStamp 3b7d855c

This happens with a blue screen of death after Windows install loaded the drivers into RAM and the screen says "Starting Windows Install", then the BSOD.

Anyone have an idea on how to fix this?

Mikel

You need to get SATA driver loaded before XP install.

Here is how, note you will need external floppy drive:
http://www.intel.com/support/chipsets/imsm/sb/CS-021736.htm

Or you can slipstream SATA drivers to XP installation disk, you will need SATA drivers:
http://downloadmirror.intel.com/17883/eng/f6flpy3289.zip
And slipstream it with nLite, here is how:
http://www.nliteos.com/guide/part1.html (you can download nLite from here to - it's free).

What procedure did you take to install XP? What type of installation CD are you using (XP Version, is it OEM, etc). Did you delete the existing partitions and create new ones?

Are you sure its code 0x00000073 ?
It means CONFIG_LIST_FAILED and it seems not to be your issue...

If windows installer causes BSOD you may be pretty sure something is not OK with your hardware. You can try with another CD but it's good idea to look into your computer case. Maybe RAM, maybe CPU (or cooling), maybe power supply issues, maybe connections. Check everything twice.

Make sure you use a clean install cd. ( The orginal )

When you slipstream some drivers in it.
It could be that there conflicting.
