You sound like it's clear you need a new fresh instalation.
If you have a guarantee, contact immediately your seller and send him the machine noticing
him that make you a backup of data on har disc. If your guarantee expired you have and you
already divided your hard disc into two partitions, then it's easy, just crash down vista with a
new installation and old one will be replaced while data preserved.
If you have all in one partition, then it's tricky. Best would be to go to shop where you bought it
and ask if they could backup your hard drive before you make a new installation and don't
forget to make two partitions, one for OS and other for data.

Hmmm without the recovery disk. All I can think to try is to borrow or buy a copy of vista to try and repair your version.
