I am looking for some advice in laptop purchases in the UK. THe choice out there is simply mind-boggling and I've seen literally hundreds of options and have become lost and therefore would be grateful for help.
My requirements / restrictions are as follows:
Laptop
£1000 barrier.
Not a gamer.
Does not need to be ultra-portable, but I do need to be able to comfortably carry it around (i.e. the 13 lb alienware I looked at won't cut it).
While to be owned for home use, it is primarily required for business usage. Specifically installing, running, demo-ing, developing Oracle products.
Minimum must run (local installations):
Oracle XE database
Oracle 11g SOA Suite
(weblogic App Server, BAM Server, Web Server, consoles, JDeveloper, BAM, Oracle Web Services Manager)...
Identity and Access Mangement Suite
BPA Suite
XML Spy
Should also be capable of playing video (DVDs)
Of course will need typical wifi, fast ethernet, DVD +/- burner/CD player
Clearly if I can reduce the cost further, that is gravy, but as long as I stay below the £1000 barried (all in, no additional accessories taking me over -- i.e. bag is included), I'm happy.
Please where possible, provide the Make/Model/Supplier URL and Price in the recommendation, and if you're up to it, a brief description why you'd opt for it under the circumstances.
Min 4GB RAM (I understand that with 32bit, I'll likely get little more than 3GB addressable to non-system resources)
Min 160GB HDD
Min dual core tech 2.26GHz
Requires XP Pro (Not vista)
Must be purchasable over the internet (to be delivered in UK) or in a Bristol high street store.
I am grateful (in advance) for your consideration in this...
Regards,
JT
