Tried running System Update from Lenovo, but no audio driver was suggested.
I think I need to manually install the driver, but I don't know which one.

Browse All TopicsI have made a fresh install of Windows 7 on my IBM Thinkpad T42. However the audio card is no longer found, and there is no drivers on Windows update to download, and nothing on the Lenovo website. How can I get the audio back?

Try running the System Update program from Lenovo and just ignore the incompatibility message that comes up and see if it will detect the sound driver.
