Acer Aspire 3000: Botched RAM upgrade? Did I fry the motherboard?
I attempted to upgrade RAM memory from the one original 512MB, 200-pin SODIMM, DDR PC2700 memory module to two Crucial 1GB 200-pin SODIMM DDR2 PC2-5300. The outcome does not look good. The notebook PC will not power on. I changed the RAM back to the orginal 512MB, and it still won't power up. Did I just do some major damage here to the motherboard, or is there some built in fuse or internal breaker that I can reset? The real question here is did I do irreparable damage and is it time to recycle the PC?

No offense to you or ctchism, but his answer was NOT helpful for your situation here.

After taking out the laptop battery and letting it sit for 30 minutes, I was able to get the power button to respond. I haven't disassembled the pc to see if there is a "reset" button on the mobo or a jumper that would reset the system, thus the split points. If in fact I truly toasted the board by adding the wrong ram, than I would have awarded all the points to you. With my present knowledge and experience level, I didn't have enough information to prove ctchism wrong.
The notch is not in the same place.
If you managed to put your new memory into the slots, you must have had to really force them in, and in doing so may have caused some physical damage.
