I agree, if you do not see an HDMI output in the laptop specs then it will not be supported regardless of the VGA chipset

One thing you must remember with graphics chipset on laptops compared to a graphics card on a desktop....the graphics card on a desktop will usually have the inputs/outputs on the card itself/with the chipset....where as in a laptop all u do is upgrade the chipset, the motherboard/chassie may or may not have all the inputs that the chipset can support...
I to have a laptop that has a graphics chipset that supports HDMI, but the mobo/chassie does not have an HDMI output.
You'll have to make sure that you have all Inputs/Outputs that you desire when selecting a laptop....
