Question

HP 530 LCD Display Shifted to Right!

Asked by: apoorvasheth

Dear All,

Hello! I am extremely disappointed these days bcoz of the way things are turning out for my HP 530 Laptop. And all these issues are happening merely bcoz of the fraud people in Mumbai, India whom I had given my laptop to for either LCD Screen replacement or By paying the money and changing the LCD screen. The computer market of Mumbai is highly equipped with people of dishonesty and fraud minded attitude and even if one pays money to them, they are still bound to cheat you! All are simply crooks and keep thinking of ways to cheat innocent and genuine people like me. The entire computer market in Mumbai city are filled with Frauds...thereby not leaving back a single person or an organization to trust on.

My Laptops Issue...
This morning, when I turned ON my laptop, I see the entire display of my Laptop being shifted from Right to Left by 10% thereby leaving black area at the right hand corner. Last week, when I turned on my laptop for about few mins, the screen was perfect positioned fine. However, due to the internal fan not rotating, I had to shut down my laptop with 5-7 mins. I had also Disassembled and Reassembled the entire laptop 2 weeks back to check the Fan area if theres any dust and blew Vacuum Blower to remove any dust in the Fan area if any. Also, I could see the Fans connector being properly connected to Motherboard. After Re-assembling everything, I turned on my Laptop and I could still see the Display being positioned perfectly fine! But, the Fan still wasnt rotating.

Also, when I hooked up an external monitor to my Laptop VGA connection, the display positions perfectly fine on an external monitor! But still, the display remains shifted to Right on the LCD screen of my HP 530 Laptop. This I believe is a physical shift taken place as at BIOS mode also, the Display is shown shifted to right.

For your all reference, I am attaching all possible screenshots taken from different angles with my Nokia Cell Phone. Could you kindly take a look at it please?

Kindly let me know of the solution please...

Regards,
Apoorva.

Since your external display looks fine, it's your laptop display that's the problem, and I would say your LCD controller is the root of it.  If this happens with a cold boot, then there's nothing to be done because the chip is damaged and you can't easily replace an LCD controller chip.  If it only happens after the laptop has warmed up, then you better get that cpu fan replaced, as the whole inside is getting too hot.

Dear Sage,

Thanks for your reply! Yes, this issue happens during Cold Boot right from the moment I Turn On my Laptop.

When you said: "the chip is damaged and you can't easily replace an LCD controller chip", I am afraid if this is calling for complete LCD screen replacement????

B'coz, it is just 1-2 months back that I replace the Internal LCD display from HP Service Centre.

I had visited PC Pitstop from my HP 530 Laptop after getting the Internal LCD screen replacement done and this is what it has to report about my LCD Screen:

Monitor Model : CMO 21533
Monitor Manufacture Date: March 2006

Also, I don't understand howcome this Display got Shifted to Right all of its own and suddenly?

Kindly assist.....

Regards,
Apoorva.

Hi There!

One more Quick update here...

This issue happens right from the time I Turn ON my laptop therefore, this screen shifting issue has happened right from Cold Boot.

Also while in BIOS Settings, I still see the display being shifted to Left from Right by 10%.

Apoorva.

I don't think the LCD screen itself is the problem, but the LCD controller chip that makes it work.  Unfortunately, I don't know of too many places that know how to replace LCD controller chips - these only work for the specific display they are matched to.

Hello All,

Would also like to ask:

"Could this also be caused by a loose or broken LCD cable. Since I had disassembled the laptop for once to clean it, is it possible that I could have bump the cable and dislodging it from it's normal position" ?

@Callandor:

As you mentioned:
"the chip is damaged and you can't easily replace an LCD controller chip..."

Does this mean that I need to replace the LCD Monitor in this HP 530 Laptop?

Kindly assist......

Apoorva.

Hey Everybody!

One quick question over here! Is it possible that if a wrong AC Power Adaptor gets connected to my HP 530 Laptop and if the Laptop is being Turned ON, it can blow off any component inside my laptop resulting into my LCD Display getting "Shifted from to Left from Right?

Can using wrong AC Power Adaptor affect the LCD Controller Chip of my HP 530 Laptop?

Or has this Display Shift issue occurred b'coz of heating or bcoz I disassembled the laptop myself.
I followed the instructions on this page to disassemble my HP 530 Laptop:

http://www.insidemylaptop.com/disassemble-ho-530-notebook-pc-remove-top-cover/

which was explained quiet professionally with all the screenshots step by step.

But I believe more importantly, this LCD Display got shifted from its original position the moment that wrong AC Power Adaptor got connected by that person to whom I took this HP 530 Laptop to for checking 3 days back for the Fan issue and he is into the business of reapiring Laptops in Mumbai.

This is an extreme important question to which I need an answer please....

Regards,
Apoorva.

One more update in connection to the last post:

B'coz once he connected his AC Power Adaptor, I immediately told him that I have bought my Original HP AC Power Adaptor along which he should be using therefore, he disconnected his AC Power Adaptor from my laptop and then connected the one I bought to the laptop.

It all depends on what voltage his adapter was outputting - if it was within 10% of the standard, I don't think it would harm anything, as long as it provided enough current.  If it was way off, it could have damaged your motherboard.  The LCD controller is usually attached to the motherboard, not the display.  You can trace the display ribbon cable and it's usually on the other end of it.

by: apoorvashethPosted on 2009-11-05 at 23:58:08ID: 25757402

Dear Callandor,

Thanks for your reply! But all I would like to know over here is that as you mentioned: " if it was within 10% of the standard....", therefore, if the Voltage of the adapter was beyond 10%, what is the first thing it can damage coming in its way inside the laptop? I mean, is it possible that it can damage the LCD Controller Chip or Shifting the LCD Display from Right to Left?

Regards,
Apoorva.

It may or may not; some motherboards can take overvoltage briefly, but no one can say definitely whether it happened in your case without the hardware in front of them.  The best I or anyone else can do is give you an educated guess, which is a voltage beyond 10% may damage the motherboard, including the LCD controller.  Where the damage can occur is varied, depending on the weakest component.

by: apoorvashethPosted on 2009-11-06 at 19:10:55ID: 25764816

Thanks for your reply but I still didn't receive an answer to what I have actually asked:

Can my Laptop's LCD Display get shifted from Right to Left b'coz of Powering my HP 530 Laptop with that wrong AC Power Adaptor by that man?

Regards,
Apoorva.

by: CallandorPosted on 2009-11-08 at 18:15:51ID: 25773028

My answer is that no one can say definitely without the hardware in front of them.  It's possible, but how can anyone say with 100% confidence that it actually did happen?  Do you expect every single question you ask to have an answer, and that this can be done remotely?  If you do, then you have misunderstood what this site is about.  If you asked a question about law, do you also expect to be able to use the answer in court?  I get the feeling that is what you're trying to get, and it would not be wise to take that approach - we're not offering legal advice here for your broken machine.

Hello All,

It seems to be a miracle happening with me as now I can see the screen being positioned back to its perfect position....I did't do anything and this happen all of a sudden on its own.

Really not sure what caused the issue than?

Kindly check the attached screenshots with this message.

So, as of now, the issue seems to be resolved! Not sure when it will bounce back.

Regards,
Apoorva.

by: CallandorPosted on 2009-11-10 at 13:17:25ID: 25789961

This is why I said no one can definitively say what caused your problem - it came back on its own.  It could be an intermittent problem and it may come back.  A part that is working some of the time will do this, but these are the hardest problems to solve, since the behavior is inconsistent.
