HP dv2000 dim display

hello

I have a HP Pavilion dv2000 laptop with a dim display. Normally this problem is cause by bad back light or lcd inverter. I have replace both the whole lcd panel & inverter and still have the same dim display. I also went ahead and replace the video ribbon  cable also but still have the same problem. Any suggestion on what else i can try? Thanks.

If by dim display you mean almost black, that pretty much covers it.
Unless you have the brightness setting turned way down, my first guess is that you replaced the LCD or inverter with a bad component

Yes the screen display is almost black. U can make out what is displaying but very very dim. I have check the brightness setup. It is Ok. I have replace the LCD, Inverter & VIdeo Ribbon cable  with new one. In the matter of fact, I tried with 2 LCD& 2 inverters. I can see my windows desktop & use my laptop if i plug an external monitor. Could the problem be motherboard related?

Yes it appears that the problem is with the MB. It's not very common but it happens.

you can test with an external screen also
Hi, a motherboard failure is possible, but unlikely.
Try to check with an external monitor (disconnect the internal lcd).

As we are already by unlikely reasons -mobo, you could try to run the lcd outside of its chassis, it might be aswell some short circuit to ground with the lcds chassis (lcd back cover).

Hello

I have tried NEW LCD panel with NEW LCD inverter & NEW VGA cable. I also take the LCD, inverter, cable out of the LCD back cover set in flat on my work bench. Still no luck. Can't the problem be the video port on the motherboard?
I thought we already concluded that it is a problem with the motherboard.

I don't know why it couldn't be.
did you test with an external screen  yet?

I did tried with new lcd inverter.
External desktop monitor plug in to the laptop will works ok.
I don't see any reason why the hack suggested by Shef7 wouldn't work. Assuming you don't mind using at the max brightness level.
Other than that the only option is to repair or replace the MB.
