There's no easy or inexpensive way to do this. The laptop displays have a controller that does the mapping, much like a graphics display adapter, so you just can't hook it up directly to a desktop pc.
One way is a PCMCIA video capture card that will take the output from a desktop in video format and display it. This assumes a working laptop, and the resolution is pretty low (640x480):

Another way, assuming a working laptop, is to use a network with the laptop displaying a remote desktop on the desktop pc.
