I am having problems with a notebook.  Installed new hard drive but keep getting an error message "line 2250 of the INF file\i386\tetsetup.sif is invalid" it won't let me reinstall operating system.  Any suggestions?

That sounds like a dirty or a bad windows/restore cd.  Try cleaning the cd and see if that helps.

I'm assuming that you are trying to restore the factory software to your new hard drive using a cd of some sort.

Examine the cd for scratches or defects.

Get one of those lense cleaning cd's, make sure its not the lense in the cd / dvd rom drive. You could also try and do what was suggested above and using a friends computer, then once you have cleaned the cd as best as you can, get a piece of software called ISO Buster and make an ISO of the cd to your friends hard drive, from there you could use clone cd to make a backup copy of your windows O/S Disc. Then try using the backup disc if you managed to make the ISO of it succesfully.

try making a copy of that cd, and use that, or hook your disk to another pc, and install it there.

some laptops have a hidden partition on the hard drive which contains the restore files and some diag software the cd you have may be looking for this hidden partition but as you have changed the hard drive its not there do you have a full operating system cd or is it just a recovery cd if its just the recovery cd you will need to contact the laptop manufactures and get the restore cd set which can be from 1 to 10 cds depending on the make of laptop some manufactures charge you for them some send them with the laptop

Has anyone found a link to anything related to that file? "i386\tetsetup.sif"  I find it odd that it doesn't show up in any search I've done.

Does your laptop have  RAID hardware or the capability of 2 hard drives?
Can you give us your OS version and your laptop manufacturer & model # ?

the tetsetup.sif is an unattended set up file which is used to reinstall windows and any other programs on the lap top but my guess is the files are on a recovery partition on the original hard drive and only the setup launcher program is on the cd if you put the cd in a working computer and browse the contents it may only have a few mb of data on it
