The Solution Rating System

With so many solutions, how can you tell which solutions are most likely to help you and which ones are not? To provide you with a tool to use, we rate our solutions based on various elements that most accurately determine if a solution is a quality solution. To explain what factors affect the solution rating, here are the elements we take into consideration when formulating our solution rating.

  • The Grade of the Solution
  • The Zone Rank of the Expert Providing the Solution
  • The Number of Author and Expert Comments
  • The Number of Experts Contributing
  • The Feedback of the Community

Your Input Matters
Because of the way the system is set up, the most important variable in this equation is you. As a member of Experts Exchange, you are able to cast your vote on the quality of the solutions in regard to how complete, accurate, helpful and easy to understand each solution is. When you provide your feedback, each rating is adjusted accordingly. So, if you see a solution that has a poor rating that you think is a good solution, let us know by rating it. As you do, the rating will be adjusted and will become more accurate for other members of our site.

If you have any suggestions that you would like to make for our rating system, please ask a question in the Suggestions Zone of Community Support.

Sony VAIO CD Boot disk image wanted.

All,

I've just been given a Sony VAIO to use for work. I have finally got it setup as I want so I want to back it up.

My normal method here is to install Norton ghost somewhere accessable, boot from a floppy or a CD and run a complete disk or partition backup.

Sadly, with this there are several problems.

1. Booting on a floppy is possible but, sadly, I would have to ask the boss for more hardware to make this happen, and we all know what happens to that sort of request.

2. The CD (actually a PIONEER DVD RW) is a USB device so the BIOS allows me to boot on it but as soon as the boot disk loads ATAPI drivers it goes tilt because it doesnt have the necessary USB drivers.

3. Booting on a really basic DOS boot CD with no drivers at all leaves access to the CD functional but, of course, I cant access any NTFS drives under DOS.

As far as I see it I need a boot image that supports USB CD drivers and NTFS partition disk access. I understand that the NTFS bit isnt too hard, there are several tools to do that but none I have come across have both in an easily accessable form.

I'm battling with UBCD right now. I cant seem to be able to get it to work. I've tried my old Hiren disk but it doesnt have USB.

I cant afford to spend money on this unless the solution is significantly better and more flexible than just a backup tool.
