Windows cannot load TORiSAN DVD-ROM DRD-U824 device

I have a Gateway Solo 9300 labtop with a TORiSAN DRD-U824 DVD-ROM drive.  I am running Windows XP Po and when I go into the Device Manager it says Windows cannot load the device driver for this hardware. The driver may be corrupted or missing. (Code 39)  I have tried searching for the device driver by doing a search on Google, but I was unable to find one.  I believe if I re-install the driver for the DVD-ROM drive it will fix the problem.  Anybody have any suggestions?

was this working before?

what you may want to do is boot into SAFE MODE, then go to the DEVICE MANAGER and remove and instances of DVD/CD anything.. restart your machine and report back.

First get all the driver updates for your notebook from gateway and install them. Also run windowsupdate and install all updates and servicepacks. Then stert regedit and look for the following keys:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Class\{4D36E965-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318}
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\class\{4D36E965-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318}

Right click in the upper and lower filter entries in these keys and press delete. Reboot and check if it is OK now.
